Hello all from a new FIAT owner.
That's me that's new, not the FIAT!:)
We have just bought a Panda 1.2 Dynamic, manual, registered January 2006 on a 55 plate.
We take delivery next week.
Q1 Did this model year have remote central locking or just key operated central locking?
Q2. What is the correct tyre size for this model?
Thanks in advance,folk!
:D

Welcome.

I originally believed it was only Actives without remote locking but have recently found some earlier dynamics didn't as well. If your boot / tailgate handle has a rubber clicky switch in / under it then your car should have remote locking, if it doesn't then it won't (y)

Wheels sizes for the steel wheels are 155/80r13 or for the alloys (not sure if it includes the 100hp and 4x4 alloys) 165/65r14 (y)

Thank you very much for that. I'll check when we collect it next Wednesday.
The dealer, of course, only has one key!:D

Welcome!!

your looking at a getting on for two hundred quid for a new remote key with coding (n)

the main dealer wil know this

Cars with remote locking were supplied new with 1 remote & 1 non-remote key - cars without it had 2 non-remote keys.

As previously posted, replacement of either type of key is expensive & requires both an electronic code to be obtained from a central registry (it's not supplied with the car in the UK) & the car's body computer to be reprogrammed - expect to pay around £125 - £150 for a non-remote key and over £200 for a remote.

Personally I'd insist on being supplied with 2 keys or I'd walk away from the car.

It's a pain if the car only has one key, so much so that I wouldn't buy the car. If you lose it you're in for big expense, car towed, or glass broken, etc.

There have been tales of insurance companies refusing to pay up when cars have been stolen and the owner can't produce both keys, and trying to sell privately with only one key can be a problem.

If you loose it you go to fiat and they order a new key, normally with a fast turn around, no smashy smashy, and I've yet to hear of the case your suggesting with a UK insurance company ;)

Alot of key cutters can do these transponder keys now, dont forget they have been around since about the mid nineties! Remote keys are more expensive yes but a basic transponder key cut and coded can be had for around £50 considerably less than the main stealer would charge.
I work as a shoe repairer/key cutter and we can do alot of them the most expensive transponder keys we do are £49 although we will soon be doing hopefully remote keys as well they could work out around £100.

No they haven't, the Fiat CODE 2 system has only been around since the early 00's (y)

True but the transponders in keys are evolving all the time it doesnt mean they cant be done by 3rd party suppliers as long as you have the equipment to code them and they will be cheaper than the main stealers.
My 100hp only came with one key but i got one done at work non remote but it starts the car no problem,as a paying customer it would have cost me £49.

Well, we have walked away from that Panda! Oddly enough the dealer had a remote key in his mitt when we called to collect our £££. "It opens the doors, but won't start the car; it's not coded", he said. Odd and odder!(n)
The car had no history, at 75,000 miles (cambelt anyone?).
Unmatched, mickey mouse tyres on the back and 4 non-standard wheel trims, so all in all, with the deposit refunded, a good deal to be out of, in retrospect.
Found another Panda with FSH, a little older, (04) but around 32,000 miles (Service book & VOSA verified).
A little more to change, though.:(
So there is a really nice little 04 Dynamic being collected next Tuesday.
Thanks for all the advice, forum members.

"If you loose it you go to fiat and they order a new key, normally with a fast turn around, no smashy smashy"

Fairly impossible in France on a Saturday afternoon. Loose your one car key and you're in for a long expensive weekend. How you going to get the car to the dealer? Star Trek Transporter? No good telling a French garage that some outfit in the UK won't give you the emergency start code card.

This from the Fiat Forum: "Phoned FIAT.....£160 and i have to get the car to them...hello its locked! i have no key!"

"I work as a shoe repairer/key cutter and we can do alot of them " PM me, I'll get a spare from you.

"I've yet to hear of the case" : You probably haven't heard of orographic wind, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. :) I had a motorbike stolen in 2002. Insurance company Carol Nash refused to pay up on the basis that the bike only had one key. Took a solicitor to sort it out. Never again. Check your policy.

Landsker: "It opens the doors, but won't start the car; it's not coded", he said. Yeah, he'd had one cut at Timpsons, perhaps. No transponder chip. Walk away. Oh! You have. Great stuff. Good luck with the new car.

Received this email from the dealer today :(
"
Just been searching around on the Internet and I have found a fiat/alfa specialist in M******** if the only reason that we have cancelled the deal is due to the key then I'm prepared to take the car to the specialist and try and get the 2nd key working as this should only cost me for programming, Is this of any interest to you? Let me know as I don't mind trying to do this tomorrow."
My reply:
"

I'm sorry to have nor replied earlier but have only just picked up your message as we have been out all morning.
We have, in fact, bought another Panda
(with 2 keys!) It's a little older than yours, it's a little cheaper, but we are getting a little less for our car.
Had you made this offer about the remote key in response to my original request for two keys, instead of declining the supply two keys on the grounds of cost, we would have been OK to go ahead with the deal, subject to the re-programming being successful.
You also seemed quite relieved when we saw you yesterday that your part exchange offer for our car would not stand, as on second thoughts, you felt you had offered too much!
I'm sure you'll be able to sell your Panda, as it is a clean car and it will now have the original model feature of remote central locking!
Regards,"
I still think we are better off leaving that one!:slayer:

We are now officially FIAT owners, with a very shiny and clean 04 Dynamic in a sort of Mediterranean blue. :)

Re: 1.2 Dynamic keys & tyre sizes. & now exhaust

OK - more help, please!
What is the best place to source and/or have fitted an exhaust, cat to back?
Our local Fiat dealer are extracting the urine at £304 and Kwik Fit want £197.

Define "best". To a lot of folk that equates into the most expensive they can find, to others, the cheapest. You seem to have already found those, but what are you looking for? Kwikfit (hak, spit) sound reasonable and will come with at least 12 months gaurantee so could be good. If you can do it yourself, look on Ebay. Do you want stainless? LOUD? Or just go to your nearest exhaust specialists.

(Might have helped if you'd posted a new thread in the Panda section instead of adding to one on keys and tyres too.... :p )
