Afternoon peeps.

found most of the info on here in regards to changing my coolant temp sensor but wanted to check it was straight forward and not messy..

About 6 month ago the fault came up but went away after 3 re-starts of the engine, then it came back two days ago, it went away again after 3 re-starts, then yesterday - took the kids sledging, went back to the car and the fault came back, it took 4 re-starts then it went away.

Im guessing the sensor is on its way out as just about everything else has been latley with this bloody car, dont get me wrong - i love the engine and the drive when its running sweet but when its not its awful and has cost me a ton of cash - some people have said, why not just buy another motor - ive put 2 grand into this now after paying £650 for it when it was up for £700 so im not giving in.

My understanding, the sensor is just bolted into the thermostat housing or very close to it and its one socket on an extension and its basically remove the plug connected to it and then unbolt like a spark plug... and pop a new one in and clear the fault.

Anyhow, im rambling but really need to know if its something i can do without a mess or re-bleeding and topping up the coolant system.

Thanks in advance.

Cars been acting a bit strange, since i posted the above, the temp gauge has been perfect and the engine temp appears to sit bang in the middle now, previous it would struggle to go past a quater on the gauge and would get really cold really easy when not under much load... Still gonna change it tho, can anyone advice if water is gonna pee out all over when i remove the old one.

thanks in advance

In short yes as they are situated in the engines water system it will loose some water. All you need to do once changed is to top it up with coolant again found this out when I changed my vauxhall corsa one few ywars back

Thanks bud, another cost to the list then lol

Did it happen during start up or whilst driving? If the former, sensor is probably fine, more likely a phantom warning due to the cold weather and battery voltage drop. Ignore and carry on driving!
