Hi peeps,

With the engine code 176B9000, there are 2 material for the HG fibre or multilayer steels.

Anyone know which is standard for the engine?

P.S the reason am posting here is because the punto section is pretty much pointless from past experience ...

Thanks

I've used both gaskets, multilayer steel one in chalky, and the fiber one in plumey.

Fiber one in plumey (mk2a punto) seems better for any waterjackets that are starting to get a little big. I just gave this one an extra 90 turn just to be certain :D.

Either way, both are ok (y)

To tell if you have the multilayer one you should have a tab of metal poking out the back left of the engine below the manifold.

Thanks

not sure with fiats, but i've had plenty of experience with the rover k series engines. initially they were manufactured with the fibre HG's then modded and changed for the steel ones.

the steel ones were definatley better than the fibre HG's for them.

I'd start from a different place.

If it has gone, find out why. Sort that.

If it's running with the "alternative" ECU, get that remapped: if it's running lean it'll be prone to overheating and det. If it's overadvanced, likewise.

If it's the autotest car, Rallycinq has a nice line in vented bonnets. There's a lot of heat trying to escape from a radiator that's really too small and an engine that's squashed into a tight space.

If the surface of the block is up to it, the metal gaskets give a higher CR, which is a good thing, but only if everything else is optimum.

All covered in ePER, the metal gasket version has a taller block.
If you can find the engine number, that should tell you.

Also, don't know if it applies to the 16v 1.2 Fiat engine, but the 16v Alfa changed to metal gaskets at the change to CF3 spec and if you use the CF3 metal gasket in the CF2 engine the reduced clearance means valves hitting pistons...
