Technical 05 Active Sport losing power..high revs

Hey Guys...

Bought our Punto from a garage nearly a year ago...MOT due in May!
Recently the car has been juddering in 1st gear and when trying to get up hills. The rev counter goes high on its own and makes me look like i'm revving my car for no reason like a dweeb. it can be really bad when going up a hill when the rev's go really high and i need to take my foot off the accelerator so the car loses power and i need to drop the gears.

Any1 got nay ideas if i have a clutch or gear box problem as i dont want to take it to garage to get fixed and me taken in and it ends up costing me a fortune. Thanks,

Hello and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

You have classic symptoms of a slipping clutch. Its highly unlikely that clutch replacement will be covered under any warranty that you may have got when you bought the car.

A new clutch fitted will be a couple of hundred depending on where you live and if you use a main dealer or small independent.

I agree with a1ant

If it slips in firstgear, it'll just get worse and in every gear

to test a clutch's biting power
Park Up on a Flat, Put it in 3rd Gear - Leave the handbrake on
Let the clutch up - If the engine keeps running/Struggles to keep running then stalls its a new clutch needed

Have you noticed it starting to slip/revs go up when going round corners?
