I've had a Bravo 1.6 for almost five years now and since then I have always had one dilemma that I cant solve to this present day!

The official Fiat statistics claim that 0-60mph for a 1.6 Bravo is 11.0 seconds. Mine makes it 9 seconds, and when I warm up the tyres I manage 8.5 seconds. Other Bravos are in the same region as mine....and yes it is standard!

Any experiences like this?

the best

I ever got out my HGT 155 20v with air-con off (makes
a big difference) is 7.5

the solution (officially)

check out this website... it has specs for most cars produced including 0-60 times and bhp specs:

www.carfolio.com

if your looking for vauxhall remember to use opel as its european.

good luck.

p.s. my bravo 1.8 used to do 0-60 in 9 seconds flat with a k&n and supersprint back system.

Re: the solution (officially)

Unfortunately, a lot of the figures aren't too helpful, because manufacturers cook the results.

Why? Well surprisingly, some companies (and I know for a fact this is true of Vauxhall) will print slower times and lower top speeds, because it reduces the insurance group! This in turn makes the cars more attractive to fleet buyers.

Others have printed really optimistic times, the famous (ish) case was the MG Maestro Turbo, where their adverts claimed it was quicker to 60 than a Porsche and several other quick cars. Unfortunately, they couldn't reproduce the results when challenged, even with a doctored car which had the clutch altered to allowed gears to be changed without depressing the pedal.

The other snag with 0-60 times is the dependance on getting to 60 in second to produce a good time: if you need to change to 3rd, then the time will be considerably slower, but the car could actually be quicker in real life situations.

Re: Re: the solution (officially)

I think that your argument makes alot of sense and I think that all manufacturers claim an understated figure because of insurance costs.

Re: Re: Re: the solution (officially)

my 1.4 12v was 11.5 seconds, but now that the release bearing/clutch is knackered it's 12.5

50-70 in 5th takes 13.
30-70 through the gears takes 12.5

p.s have to change to 3rd for 0-60 time.

Figures, figures, figures

I used to work for a motor cycle company, and when they gave out the figures for the weight of the bike, they drained all the oils and petrol tank before weighing it, thus giving the impression that big engine and light bike equals fast speeds. Likewise, lost of ccar makers do the same, incidentally, the holder of the world record for 0 to 100 mph and then back to 0 is the cateram, beats some very very dear cars

0-60

0-60 times by manufacturers also tend to be with a full fuel tank or other standard loads. This can make a big difference, especially in a small car.

BS...

This is soooo much bull (9 / 8.5 to 60 with 1.6)....or my car is tottaly ****ed up

i can't get passed 10.5....and i don't believe yours 8.5, sorry mate ;)not with 103HP

Re: BS...

i am definatly in agreement with drsergio.

My 1.8 did it in about 10.5 the other day. My car is completely standard. the trouble is you have to change to 3rd to hit 60. i sure with a few mods i can push it over 60 in 2nd but until then theres no way i'll be breaking the 10 second barrier.

2nd gear

My 1.8hlx will do 60 in 2nd, thats just about on the red line if i remember rightly, its not something i do a lot. My car is 100% standard by the way.

Re: 2nd gear

really,

i'll have to try again tonight then. the book figure for 2nd gear is just below 60 (56/57 or something like that) so maybe i was a little hasty in changing gear.

I'll have a go if i get chance and let everyone know the time tomorrow cause i know you're all interested.

0-60

Dont forget to get the quickest time do not depress the clutch and do not lift off - you should be able to change gear by blipping the clutch an inch whilst flicking into 2nd and not lifting off. It may need practise (a lot) and a new g/box if you cock it up too many times (Are you reading this Andy?????), but once you get the knack it drops 1 to 1.5 seconds off the time as proved on driving days.

Good luck!

Re: 0-60

Cheers, i'll remember that. I used to be able to do it with my cav sri but havent properly got used to the clutch on this one yet.

Re: Re: BS...

I don't agree with DrSergioDJ. I NEVER talk bullshit (well maybe a few white lies to the ladies!) & I have definitely hit 60 in a shade under 9 seconds in my 1.6 which is slightly modded in the engine compartment but not much. I have also reached 128 mph on the flat which I almost couldn't believe myself at the time!
Cheers

HGT + Advice

Just been out timing the HGT. I also forgot to mention the ultimate rev v grip start. You gotta dump or feather whateve suits your style and clutch control. Spinning the black bits will increase the time!

Anyhow, been down the farm - superb dark black asphalt and smooth as a - well you get the drift.

Did about 5 or 6 runs - I got it wrong on three out the first four but got the HGT down to 6.8 (a/c off obviously) so give a bit of enthusiasm on the stopwatch button - should be about 7.3 - 7.6. I feel I have done it faster but you are getting into fractions now.

Fuel was Esso Super Unleaded, about 1/8th tank, Eagle F1 tyres with about 2,000 mile wear (just about perfect) and car has done about 30,000. All standard.

Thing I did notice about the 0 -60 on the HGT against the Bravo was hitting the powerband. By the time I had got through 60 and onto the brakes I was doing about 70, when I did this in the Jag I was hitting nearer 80, just shows the different power ranges.

not on the public road of course....

Anyone got an idea of 0-60-0 or 0-100-0 times?

Right where are my car keys???
