Re: MES set-up help required - please.

Supporting "s and b" post then no you can not do any harm by selecting an incorrect airbag option.

The MES website/documentation does explain what the 2F-2P-2L etc. identifications mean. Picking the wrong one will NOT do any harm or damage. You may just not get fully correct operation/information back.

A point to remember MES is by default a PASSIVE interrogator of any system it is coupled to. This means that it will no cause and damage or data corruption UNLESS you select some for of WRITE operation. In MES write operation are generally located/confined to "ACTUATOR" operations. One has to consciously make several MES selections to write back to the connected device. All MES users should read the manual, do simple connects, get a feel and understanding of the program and it's abilities an DO NOT engage any update or write operation unless you know what you are doing.

MES is inherently safe! The only danger is the user

If you select the wrong ECU option, you should get an "Error - Invalid ISO" or similar message. Try each one in turn until you don't get the message. That one will be the ISO code for your airbag ECU, and the correct one to use for the car in future.

EDIT: Added info.
The 2F-2P-2L etc. codes relate to which airbag devices are fitted in the car as follows:

2F - 2 Front airbags
2P - Seat Belt Pretensioners (driver + passenger)
2L - 2 Side airbags
2T - 2 Curtain airbags
I - Switch to disable the passenger Airbag
S - Front Seat Passenger detection system
.

Re: MES set-up help required - please.

If you haven't already done so, download the user guide from the MES website. See section III, page 36. It describes the Scan function. Connect the relevant cable and press Scan and it should identify the correct module for you.
