Anybody got any idea how to access the void that exists between the windscreen and the dashboard? It's not obvious but if you drop say a crisp £20 note or a tax disc into this recess then it disappears never to be seen again

OK, so I did manage to retrieve the tax disc before it went down completely, LOL, but the glass cover has gone all the way :(

Wondered if the top glove box might be the way to go or do you reckon it’s a lost cause?

....and if anyone else is thinking of changing their tax disc then take care!

Taking trim off, this is where I come in (Deckchair5 will get that :D).

To gain access to the bit you're on about Jason, it would be better to remove the side trim that has the airbag switch on it. Pop the switch out by using a small flatblade, remove switch, undo small posidrive screw, open main glovebox and undo 2 (or 3 is it?) torx bolts. Unpull the door aperature rubber, then remove the trim; you'll see you can gain access that way.
Either that or remove the A-pillar trim but it's a sod to get back on!

Thanks for the info Rich (is there any part of your car you haven’t taken apart?).

Sounds like a fair bit of work but I might have to give it a go if things start rattling (or if I start to suspect its been wedged full of £20 notes) :D

Erm, well I was going to remove the whole dashboard to cure a creak, failing that the whole interior has been removed at some point (both 3dr and 5dr :D).

Nah, takes 3 minutes max!!!

Nice one Rich (y)

Did as you said and retrieved the cover. That void is huge  Conveniently it seems that stuff seems to drop down to just behind the cover which makes removal even easier (no notes in there though :().

I found it's not necessary to remove the side trim completely as it just ‘hinges’ out enough to get your hand in. Got a bit carried away trying to remove door trim but stopped when I realized you don't need to pull it off. It's a bit 'unsprung' now but hopefully wont cause any wind noise.

To save this grief all I needed to have done was lay a duster on the dash

Still, it's just as well I only need to change the disc in my Richbrook holder only once a year :)

You said "Unpull the door aperature rubber" - that's the part I started to remove.

The "unpull" part confused me. Nothing's hanging loose although it's not as tightly fitted as before.

Ah the black rubber, yeah it makes the trim easier to remove. When we pulled all 3 off my Stilo yesterday (yes, even more trim was coming off :D, all in the name of Connect Nav+), the tailgate one was a sod to get back on; we hammered it down (sharp taps) and now it's on better than before :D

Mefinks Rich dreams about trim removal!! :D

Mmmmm been thinking the same it must have somthing to do with all that rubber :chin: obviously gets him all exited :D

my passenger side door trim is loose, the handle thing (that you pull the door to with) is flexi and it rattles when i have my music on loud :(

Nothing wrong with long lengths of black rubber :D. You should have seen the trim that came off for the roof lining, woo I was in me element!! :p

I just though that I'd drag this thread up seeing as the main culprits are still members... plus I've lost my parking permit between the dash and the windscreen :D

So... Argonaught or Rich, can you run me through exactly what you did and what you had to remove to get to your tax disc holder? I haven't had a go at this yet but I figure it's probably better to be prepared rather than have have my dash and trim taken apart before I realise I'm missing a vital tool or something (y)

Cheers guys!

Greggers

Greggers, it's basically covered in posts #4 & #7 and, as said, is much easier than it sounds (y)

Only thing I'd add is go easy when removing the rubber trim (between door hinge and dash) since you don't really need to - can be tricky to get back as it deforms a little when removed.

Thanks Argonaught. I'll give it a go and bear the rubber removal in mind (y)

How's the weather in Poole? Was down in Bournemouth yesterday and it wasn't too bad! Nice to be beside the seaside :D

Typical Bank Holiday start (raining :() but not too bad this afternoon. Usually go for a walk, along the coast or something, on days off but couldn't persuade anyone to wear their waterproofs :D
