Hi,forgive me for being thick ,iv just tried to remove steering wheel shroud ,I couldn't get them off,is it a steering wheel off job ?.I'm trying to remove the binnacle to do a repair job on temp gauge cheers.

There are 2 small screws (Allen head I think) that hold the 2 halves of the shroud together. They screw in from the bottom half. To get the instrument cluster out, you only need to remove the top half. You may need to lower the steering column to it's lowest position.

I did remove the three torx bolts that connect the bottom to the top as you say, lowered column, but could not get the top shroud out,it goes under the back of the steering wheel, its as if the steering wheel needs to come forward.
I stopped then and put it all back together so I could talk to someone who knows ,ie,you peeps.

Just to add,I didn't want to force anything before I talked to you guys.

It's held together by clips on sides. Try to remove rubber cover for levers and pull there. Mine was removed many times, so it was easy. Yours may be harder to get off.

From memory there are two or three bolts that hold the two pieces together (i.e. the bottom bit comes off) and there are two mini-allen bolts that hold the top part onto the steering rack frame.

They're at the front (behind the steering wheel) and you can only see them if you're looking directly up, behind the steering wheel. If it's still not coming loose, have a look at the back as well.. there could be a third/fourth mini-allen bolt.

The shroud comes floppy/loose when there are no bolts holding it on, so if it's still "tight" there is another bolt still in there somewhere.

There is no clip or "forcing" required.

To get to the temperature gauge you need to remove the instrument cluster.
you do not need to remove the shroud to get the instrument cluster out. just remove 2 screw under the top part and then 2 hidden torx 20 screws in the bottom. The bottom ones are hidden under the soft nylon/cloth bit that you will see if you adjust the steering column out and to the bottom. It is then a job of a careful pull twist and slide to get it out. I have recently had an instrument cluster die on me. This was fixed by a Dutch guy on here ( goes by the name yellowstilo). He did a good job for me if you need a cluster repair. If you source a replacement you will need one from the same model and to proxy align (this may up the mileage shown if the donor unit has more miles recorded. I have very recently removed mine so if you need more info please ask.

Thanks for all your answers,I'll have another go at the weekend,I was planning on firstly re-solder the stepper motor connections on temp gauge, failing that I was gonna solder in a new one, sold on e- bay.will the new one just work correctly or will it need re-calibrating on some fancy gadget.
