so, I dont even have my Stilo yet, but i do know I will need a new spare key, and remote fob as the car only comes with one key.

so, I have read a bit about getting a new key from Fiat for around £100, can anyone fill me in on details? What do I get for £100? Im hoping for a spare key and remote fob to operate the doors and windows, does that sound right? do i have any other options for obtaining spares?

thanks in advance for your help, chaps!

bump.

anyone? is it around £100 for a key and fob, or just the fob/key?! what are my options? can i get a ued from from ebay, and make that work?:)

New key/remote

ok, just had a big OUCHY from a Fiat parts supplier. For the remote fob, its flippin £220 plus VAT, or £118 just for the key.

so, i think I iwll do the DIY method I have read about. Am I right in thinking I need:

a spare remote fob from ebay? - if so, how does it work in terms of the key blade?

ECU Scan and cables?

coding from a Fiat Dealer

code pack? I was told just now, i need a code book, which I dont have...whats that???

I have a flip out key that I found in my MW when bought, but does not fit my locks. Yours if you wish, you will need to get a new blade cut, then programmed

Re: New key/remote

You have to get the codes for your car, about £15 from a Fiat dealer, they get the info from an international register.

However having a key, will only allow you to open the door, if you've got a remote fob you can code it to open the door. but you won't have the required "grain of rice" imobiliser chip for your car, meaning you won't be able to start it..

Unless you are attempting to convert a non-remote locking key to a remote one.

Re: New key/remote

erm...

ok, i need the "codes" from Fiat?

then, i need to get a new blade cut, so that i can fit that to a second hand remote fob (from ebay), then get that fob setup with the car so I can unlock it, do the windows etc, THEN, take that key to fiat, pay £20 and get it coded to the car so I can start it?!

yes please?! has it got the the buttons? the ones that will make the windows wind down etc?

how much you want for it? drop me a PM!

If I recall, think its a 3 button flip out remote key. Unlock ( Windows open, if your stilo fitted with it ), Lock ( Windows close ) & Boot Unlock

Just in case I am wrong, I will photograph tonight as long as I can find the USB cable thing.

What I want for it, Make me an offer.

Re: New key/remote

ah thats ok i understand.

I will buy a new fob, with key, and have that setup to operate both the doors and start the car, i assume they can code it correctly to start the car either form my current key or from these codes?!

sorry, im being a bit thick probably..

oh flippity flip flopping flop.

sorry, now i see. typical. Now i have just bought the key remote fob, I realsie that although it can be programmed to open the doors etc (yay), the same key wont start the car (boo).

SO, with that in mind now, how DO I get a key sorted that will start the car??

you need a precoded transponder for your new remote - by reading the eeprom of your bodycomputer a car key specialist can use this file to make a precoded transponder which contains the secret code to get your car started.

ah right i see. I have found a guy in HUddersfield that says he can do this, he says he also has access to the "code packs" system. so hopefully he wont charge too much but we will see!

now that I think about it, I dont really want to be able to start the car with the remote fob, because id just end up pushing the buttons etc when turning the key!
