Anyone fitted non-OEM reversing sensors on a 3 door? If so, do you happen to know the colour of the reverse LIGHT wire?
I can't find it on any search and the eLearn CD doesn't help.

 
Since I've got the 5 door I can't help you, but when faultfinding my trailer hook electrics I found an easy way.

You need help from a friend by the way.

Disconnect the left (or right) connection block from the rear cluster. You'll get loads of beeps from the dash. Use a mulitmeter to find the correct wire while a friend engages/disengages the reverse. You'll then see which connector it is. It will rise from 4 volts or something to 14 when wired. The colors are different from left to right, so it's a guess if not checked.
 
I've been thinking about fitting non-OEM reversing sensors. I have a couple of kits in my garage so I'll keep an eye on this thread and may fit some.

I've got a reverse camera hooked up to my dvd head unit which turns on when i engage reverse. I can't tell you what wire it is now but i will have a look tomorrow and let you know. (y)
 
I've fitted them on my MultiWagon.

Can't remember the colour of the reverse feed, think it might be pink. Just take the rear light cluster out, trace the metal connecting plate back from the reversing light bulb to the pin connector, then see what colour wire connects to that pin.
I think I probably used a 12v test screwdriver to see which pin lit up in reverse... but you can use the above method just as easily.

That's where I drew my reverse feed from anyway, just piggy-backed into that pin on the connector, so no cables cut anywhere...
 

I bit the bullet today and dismantled the near side rear light at great cost to my back, my right arm ( thanks to bloody sharp interior trim backing) & my general well-being ( I have a large piece of shaped foam sound proofing which for the life of me, I cannot remember where it goes!)

Anyway the wiring for the rear light cluster plug on a 2002 3 door JTD is ->

1 . . Black . . . . Earth
2 . . Grey . . . . Reverse light
3 . . No pin
4 . . Brn/Blk . . . Tail light } Could be stop
5 . . Green . . . . Stop Light } _._ Tail
6 . . Pink . . . . . Indicator
7 . . Pink . . . . . Tail light

There was a loose wired connector on the off-side which may be there for a reverse sensor unit but I didn't feel like checking it out!

Getting old sucks - don't let anyone tell you different (n)

This one also sends a reverse signal, or is connected to that somehow, as it connects directly to Ellebi/Brink's trailer hook electrics, to shut off the reversing sensors when a trailer is hooked on. Pretty fancy, as it else would beep constantly when reversing. I know people has been on the moon, but I still find this pretty amazing.

Is off-side the same as right side? Why are these terms actually so common?

I don't know if the terms are used elsewhere Mort but they are used here in the UK.

Nearside - nearest to the verge/footpath & offside - furthest from the verge/footpath.

And yes offside, it is the same as right side ( in the UK :)

Please did you find a good way to bring the sensor cables inside? One solution shown in other thread is simply trough the hole for the light cluser, but sounds that could make the seal less hermetic and leave water in?
Anybody knows which route in the factory fitted sensors would use?

I ended up fitting the very cheap JML twin sensor jobbie (£4.50) and stuck the sensors just below the rear light clusters.

I picked up power from the reverse light wiring (grey) and brought the sensor cables in through the bottom of the rear light clusters adjacent to the hatch.

Works well and no water ingress to date.

I will likely do what you suggested, it will save me from having to remove the bumper, likely. However, I would be just curious how the factory fitted sensors wires get in...
 
I Fitted the sensors, no bumper removal needed.
-I removed the plastic strip on the bumber. Underneath, there are four holes where the original sensors would be if they were installed. Marked the positions on the strip.
-I drilled the four holes in the strip using the drill bit included in the kit.
-I plugged the four sensors, with their wires, into the holes.
-I removed back rear lights cluster of the car.
-I put the strip on the floor behind the car, and threaded each sensor wire trough the corresponding hole, using a straightened wire coathanger from dry cleaner. For the two rightmost wires (these under the removed rear light) could be threaded directly to exit under the light.
-for the third and fourth hole, you can plug the coathanger wire into one hole and make it poke from the next one, where you hook the sensor wire on it, pull, etc, till you get all your four wires exit under the light cluster.
-Now, thread the wires trough the hole left by the light cluster, and we are inside. Replace the cluster, and do the wiring from inside. Plug the electronics box, the buzzer, stick it by the two side tape included in the kit.
