Been reading alot about how easy it is to install Cruise Controls if your car is predisposed(pre-wired).

I did a little checking and mine was, so I purchased a New Cruise Control Stalk from FF member. (Thanks Nic)

Here's the result ...

Hey richy, did you wire those 3 buttons to the connector in the engine bay?

Do they work ok?

Clever idea.

yes

yes

i know, i cuddn't find the stalk 2nd hand, fiat and alfa were asking £80:eek: i found a company on t'interwebz who sent me 'samples' of the switches.

Left hand switch:- On/Off
Middle switch :- Acc/Ret
Right hand switch:- Res

my total bill...
switches:- Free
7core wire:- Free (found an 8ft length kicking about at work)
labour cost:- i actually got paid (i did it on a quiet sunday at work)

so for working cruise control all you need is the stalk if its pre wired i assume theres a connector in the steering column? Do you have to do any tinkering with fes? And how easy was it to fit shady?

No FES mods required unless you want the dash light (you'll need registered FES to do a 'proxi alignment')

the stalk is a bolt on replacement

theres a guide on page 3 of the stilo guides that explains everything apart from the proxi alignment as it wasnt known at the time by the OP(y)

Well done Shadey. It's a great feeling when it works first time isn't it? Is that an Alfa 147 stalk you've got there?

Took less than 15 minutes to fit and yes I was well impressed when it worked first time.

I really dont know if its the Fiat or Alfa stalk, perhaps someone here could enlighten me? It works and it looks ok, thats all that interests me ...

I could take a photo of my Fiat cruise control stalk tomorrow if anyone would like.

The switches on the Fiat one are rounded in the same style as the ones for the lights and wipers. The Alfa ones are more pointy and I think a slightly different colour to the Stilo's indicator/lights and wiper stalks.

the stalks are one and the same iirc
im pretty sure there the same part numbers but if you go to fiat for it they say its discontinued and you have to get the complete set of stalks at a silly price... If you go to alfa its a seperate entity from the stalk assembly

Due to the fact that there is no part number for the Fiat stalk the only one available is the Alfa stalk.

Part Number - 735365522

So maybe when Fiat sell a complete set of controls all they actually do it bolt on the Alfa stalk?

There is no difference in colour comparing the one I brought to the other controls in my car. However, there is a slight difference in the shape of the little switches.

They really look nice (y) Whem I first saw the picture of them on ebay I really didn't whink they will go with the dash but with the white interior the look even better. Where did those AUX connectors under the AC come from ?

I thought there might be a colour difference but that was a guess. The difference between the Fiat and Alfa stalk is the shape of the switches then. I'll go and take a pic of my Fiat one in my car.

shadey, you have an alfa stalk, the FIAT one comes with the whole switchgear (indicators, light, wipers) cant be bought on its own except from breakers...

Its an excellent feature isnt it (y)

have you turned on the light in FES?

i STILL havnt got my blutooth OBD dongle to work, i think the screen in the dash is messing with the bluetooth link between PC and dongle
