I've been messing around with an old Connect Nav+ system looking for an easy/cheap way to hook up an auxiliary input to my own. As I have the CD changer fitted and want to keep it fitted my options where restricted.

So today I gave up messing(defeated ) and purchased a Hard Wired FM Modulator. This device converts what ever sound source I plug into it into an FM signal which is fed via a cable(hard wired) direct to the aerial port on the rear of the Connect Nav+. The car aerial then plugs into the FM Modulator. This hard wired approach gives a High Quality radio sound(apparently).

So I've got a Veba Hard Wired FM Modulator exactly the same as this one

and was wondering if anyone else has one or something similar and where did they put it, photos would be appreciated.

Perfect Stu, Thanks.

As its for your iPod where does the cable exit your dash, the part that connects to your iPod?

I'd like to fit a 3.5mm jack and some phono's neatly somewhere so I can plug whatever I want into it, any suggestions where and how I could do this?

I keep the pod in the gllove box. If you look at the ceiling of it there is an access piece that pulls open. You can just put the wire through there and close it back up.
Or drill a hole through the upper glove box bit and fabricate a dock into the flocked bitl Thats what i plan to do eventually with a hardwired 12v charging station. I want spare Phone batteries, ipods for each genre i listen to etc in there.

Mount it in the upper glove box. There is loads of room behind there to have it flush mounted in the tray.
Have you ever taken the upper glove box apart?

Yes, once before, to replace a hinge on the upper glove box door. Removing the acual glove box was easy but removing the door and hinges was a pain in the butt. The car I have now has the CD Interchanger fitted in there so less space behind I guess? Is there much difference between the two as far as removal is concerned?

EDIT
I've just had an idea. Check this out.

That would work but do you know what would be easier? An aftermarket unit with IPod control

I'm happy with the original system, its neat and it sounds ok. An Aux input will be useful though so ordered the input mount and I'm sure I can get my hands on an ashtray for free. An hour or two tinkering in the garage should see the job done.

All together will cost less than a "Bullseye", thats cheap enough for me. (y)

Just a quick update.
I wish I hadn't used the missus's old Vivas Pro mobile to shoot the vid now because the sound quality of the Wired FM Modulator is excellent and you cant hear it in the vid.
Making an AudioTray(https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/264745-ashtray-audio-inputs.html) is on hold as I broke the Ashtray I had. :(
Installed the Audio inputs and power switch temporarily untill I can get another ashtray.

I have a broad taste in music, everything from Tracy Chapman to KORN, just depends what mood I'm in. Been driving the missus made just lately with a band called Volbeat while driving. :D

I'm hoping to make it there, all depends on the missus. She's a nurse can't guarantee she'll have the day off.

This is really nice, been looking for something like this. I can hear some hissing in there which can get rather annoying for me, as I'm somewhat of an audio freak but still don't want to part with the OEM radio for aesthetic reasons.

It seems to be of much better quality than those things that keep your power socket occupied all the time and are very inaccessible..

How different is it from the sound of the CD? Also, why did you install a switch?

There's no hissing and less you have the volume turned up as high as it will go when there's no music playing. The sound quality is great, as good as the best radio stations with strong signals like Radio 1. I'm an audio freak myself, trust me, the sound quality is brilliant considering its price. Its obviously not as good as a CD but its not far off if the sound source is good. I was using my HTC HD7 with 320kbps MP3 tracks on it as a source. A few sound option tweeks on the HD7 had my Stilo thumping.
My daughter has an Archos tablet that sounds really good when plugged in.

The switch is required because the signal that the Modulator sends directly into the aerial socket of the head unit is strong and will over power a lot of the weaker radio stations if its left switched on. Once I can get my hands on another ashtray the switch and the audio inputs will be out of site untill needed.

Edit.
Ashtray ... That reminds me.

No i mean the ones that go through the center console and come out behind the arm rest. If so then there are piping ducts where the Ash tray would go, hence the blanking plate. (y)

Yes I know about the ducting but as I plan to cut away the rear of the ashtray and only have the audio inputs mount i'm hoping to reduce its depth enough to miss the ducting. I have taken a few measurements and I think I can do it without hitting the ducting. Fingers crossed.

too much to ask....
I'm bit ignorant in those technical aspects..
I've got a stilo xbox 2005...
I want to fit a aux cable.....
can anyone explain it to me..
or suggest a link that would be helpful for a first timer.....
