This is a message to all those threads about dashboards hopping up and down and giving so much electrical mayhem to Stilo owners.
About a year ago I took the Pollen / Cabin filter out of my '05 multiwagon. Took all the old leaves and debris out of the void where the filter was and I was delighted that the strength of the fan in the heater was much improved.
About 6 months after that (winter) the dashboard started hopping !!! For about the first 20 mins after start up, especially in damp conditions the dashboard would light up like a Christmas tree, shut down, up, down etc until at about 20-25 mins into the journey, when the car was fully warmed up and then it would calm down. The time and date stayed on 00.00 and the 1st Jan 2000.
Today I've eventually go round to picking up the cabin filter ordered and installed, it. The weather was very warm and dry, so perfect conditions to get the whole car warmed up fully.
Up to now (9 hrs later) the dashboard has stayed illuminated as it should and the time and date have not shifted.
Anybody with dashboard issues which appear to be electric in origin should check the pollen filter / cabin filter first before looking into the electrics of the car. I'd only put a bag round the D4 connector and taken out the whole fuse box (which isn't too much of a job) and was about to open up the dashboard dial cluster - which would put the fear of god into me.
