Not having a good week when it comes to headlights lol

My passenger main beam headlight has gone on my new stilo.

It uses xenon headlights, But im not sure which bulb I would need to replace and have even less idea about how to fit it. Does anyone know which ones i need, I found these...

I am also thinking about replacing the headlight on my other stilo that i had the 'little mishap' with
i found this

the headlights on that stilo are not xenon though... would this be suitable or would i need a standard headlight?
thanks

You two have to talk with each other by computer? :)

£70 for a headlight bulb!

Fiat price for D2R burners is £160 each. :eek: And, because the colour temperature of the light changes over time, you need to replace them in pairs.

ouch thats steep, is this the same by chance

Yes.... they are the same, but you only need this type of bulb (burner) if the car is fitted with the original Fiat Xenon HID gas headlamps.

If you do have original HID headlamps, you need to be careful not to have any "little mishaps" with this one, new headlamps are £850 each for it.

Following on from this, is there any easy way to tighten the headlight, as it seems to be working intermittently, the ecu isn't telling me about any loose connections, but the headlight did start working again for a few days and now its gone again.

Funny, I'm having exactly the same problem with my drivers side Xenon. Driving home I noticed I only had one light, parked up and both were on, this morning only one again.

Had a quick look, but not really had time to investigate further.

Trouble is it's rather tig down there and I have little idea of the layout or loom layout. I don't really want to be poking round HID ballasts without a clue!

Would anyone have a diagram?

Sorry to piggy back onto your thread Damien!

These are the wiring diagrams for Stilo HID headlamps and automatic headlamp adjusters.

B2 = Dashboard fuse box.
F10 = Left (Master) headlamp.
F11 = Right (Slave) headlamp.
M1 = Body computer.
M73 = Automatic adjuster ECU.

Well, mine definitely seems to be a loose connection. In the wrestling match to remove the somewhat opaque pollen filter it has started working again.

I might leave hunting that one down for another day!

I cannot make head nor tails of those diagrams as helpful as im sure they would be to someone lol

i cant even see anyway to get the light connections, damn 1.8 engine, the 1.2 had much more room under the bonnet

Have you tried cleaning the connector on the back of the headlamp? The left one should have a round connector held on with a grey locking clip and a flat 6 pin black connector. The black one is just for the automatic adjusters.

If you unclip the grey clip and disconnect the connector then spray it with electrical contact cleaner (not WD40) and refit, it may help. If not, it's likely to be a poor connection inside the headlamp.

What part of the smoke are you in?

I cant really get my hand down there, or see what I'm doing.

I live in Perivale... near Wembley.

Well, I ended up dropping the wheel arch liner and removed the washer bottle as there seems To be more to the xenon headlight unit than he simple connector. Anyway, need to try and work out what colour wires are used for the dipped beam now to test, and then from the connector to the ballast.

I might just buy another set of bulbs as this is getting frustrating!

I too tried removing connectors, i could only get one out and cleaned it out, the other i could neither reach properly no understand how to remove it.
I didn't check what the one i removed did, as i don't like messing around with connecting and disconnecting the battery.

needless to say it didn't sort out my problem, also i probably should have asked for help as i was in east london/essex most of today and yesterday lol

The left headlamp has 2 connectors. One round 16 pin connector with a grey locking clip and one flat 6 pin connector. The 6 pin connector is just for the automatic adjuster sensors.

To disconnect the round connector, you need to pull the grey locking clip out about 5 - 10mm at a right angle to the connector. The connector should then come off.

still cant seem to get the connector off, but apparently after playing with it for a little while trying, it has started working again, so clearly a loose connection. I guess it will be ok for now

Well, this weekend I spent trying to diagnose the headlight issue. So, after removing the wheel, arch liner and water bottle I was able to get to the faulty passenger side unit. I then needed to use the working drivers side headlight ECU and ignitor to swap over and find the faulty passenger unit.

This meant removing the battery, fuse boxes, battery box so I could get to the drivers side and after some swapping bits and pieces I've found out that the passenger side ignitor is faulty and so the hunt is on for a replacement Bosch ignitor. It's used in Golfs, Mercedes and other cars so it shouldn't be too hard to find hopefully. Cheaper than a whole new Fiat Xenon headlight unit.

The question I have is why are the headlamp adjustor motors in the Xenon units when they aren't used as I have no controls on the dash and seem to recall that the Xenons didn't have fog lights nor adjustors?

Also, how the hell do I replace the sidelights as I'm putting all new bulbs in so I never have to do this faff again! I can reach the tab but can't seem to extract it.

Sorry for the ramble.
