lower it??

or keep it standard??

you decide!!!

im going to be the only one that says standard, but then again its your car (y)

i calculated that i wouldnt be able to get in and out of my drive with it lowered as its on one hell of an angle :(

"Been there and done that" as they say :D

If you really want to lower it then make sure you go for Eibachs -30mm rather than cheap springs.

I'd also up-rate the dampers on the front at least.

I used cheap Pi springs which was a big mistake (nearly 40mm drop) even if the car did look better :bang:

It was pure joy to get back to standard springs afterwards - could actually push it through those fast curves again

going to try my best to get it lowered and cambelt/serviced by the time of donny then, got quite a challenge i think!:slayer:

pah afternoon job, i still got no engine and gearbox

courier has phoned though to say sorry, stuck in traffic all day, i can belive that as he was in west london, and m25 been blocked all day

Two brief comments:

1) As an alternative to lowering which preserves a half-decent ride quality but improves handling, how about fitting uprated dampers to standard springs? I've done this with KONI Sport Adjustables and am very pleased with the result.

2) If you do change your springs, don't bother with spring compressors. Take your struts to a garage and ask them to do it (even they will struggle unless they have a commercial press). The Stilo standard front springs take a lot of compressing and most DIY compressors can't 'squash' the springs enough to free up the top mount to allow them to be removed from the strut...

Steely,
I'd echo what has already been said, LOWER IT LOWER IT LOWER IT, LOL
but........... if you going to do it, do it properly and fit Eibach Spirngs with matching struts/shocks.
I fitted Eibach springs with Boge shocks and although the shocks are OK, i think the overal handling could be better with eibach shocks.

So did you change your rear dampers or only the fronts?

Changing back to standard springs is a great education is seeing just how effective the oem dampers are when matched to the correct springs.

After 6 mths of driving lowered (and then reverting to standard) the effect is quite amazing as you can actually feel the suspension soaking up every bump instead of trying to bounce

You soon get used to it though and that's a big problem with mods as you can also get used to something being wrong :(

PI's no good then? My mate swears by them on his Coupe?

To be fair, I personally thought the springs were quite good. They're very progressive (you can carry huge loads with them) but I made the mistake of not changing the standard dampers which meant the car had difficulty keeping the rubber in contact with the road (which is obviously not good for handling :().

The other problem was that on a JTD the drop was about 40mm which meant some kerbs and speed bumps became a major pain :bang: I even managed to ground it a few times on some twisty back roads.

I fitted Eibach springs all round, at the front i fitted Boge Turbo shocks which are uprated but they don't make a Turbo rear shock only an standard replacement called Boge Automatic. I fitted these as Boge are a standard fit on some BMW, Mercs etc so thought they'd be a bit better rather than the worn ones i had, LOL
They are good but sometimes get the impression I should have spent the extra. I'm also not 100 % sure if they are a lowered shock rather than a standard ride height shock.
Forgot all about checking that until after they were fitted :bang:

In summary, well worth the money they cost for the performance given.

2 pairs of compressors will do the trick. See my fantastic guide... The problem is if you slice a vertical section throught the center of the spring, it curves too much for a standard compressor, as their grips are too narrow. But you can do it. I did.
