Hope you've got your water proofs on then :D

On a serious note are you sure its the sea, some of the Navtech colouring does look a bit like water but is in fact hospitals and other such places.

Its unlikely that the GPS receiver is constantly receiver incorrect data, try pressing atlas and see if it correctly identifies the road your on.

try resetting the unit by pressing setup 4 times.

and then donate to the forum and download the latest maps (y)

hey mate tried the reset and it didnt change. got my tom tom out and the long and lat is totally out on the car! also the car is showing as connected to no satelites :s but when your moving in the car the long and lat change :s but it still shows no satelites

as i said, best thing to do is to donate to the forum, then download the new maps, and re-instal the setup cd. that way you know your starting on a fresh leaf if you know what i mean.

i still think you should pull the unit out and check all the connections.

have you got a 'black box' somewhere on your dashboard by the windscreen?

and do you know if your JTD originally came with the sat nav or was it added by a previous owner?

on the system test it says gps fine though, would this still be a loose connection?

theres a small round thing on the front blower which i assume is the GPS antenna?

im pretty sure the car came with it all installed.

"GPS Fine" means that it knows it's plugged into an antenna, which could be duff. The longitude and latitude will change as you drive, as the unit picks up data from the gyroscope in the antenna and vehicle speed on the CAN network and uses them to calculate your route.

If the longitute and latitude are wrong compared to a functioning Sat Nav unit, then regardless of which maps version you are using, it'll always be on.

Whats the longest you've had the car on for recently? It can take up to 15 minutes to register with the Sat Nav correctly.

Next step is new antenna.

im thinking new antenna then, had the car on for around 3 hours!!

am i right in saying the round thing on the front blower is the gps receiver?

can i use a coat hanger to remove the sat nav unit?

No thats the climate control solar sensor. The GPS antenna is the one mounted on the roof - proper Stilo one is around the £130 mark.

Erm no - you should use the proper Connect Nav keys, your local dealer should have a set you can borrow.

rich, my antenna is a box by the drivers side a pillar. the roof one is the gsm antenna. my connect was factory fitted

I can guarantee that the factory fit has the GPS/GSM antenna on the roof - the unit is a dual function, three cabled unit - believe me, I've fitted 3 of them now!

The box by the A-pillar will be a replacement unit, as your GPS unit probably died too. There's nothing wrong with what's been done, it's a far cheaper option (£15 vs. £130), but not original fit.

where abouts in cardiff are you dreamworx? and what stilo you got? might see you driving about (y)

rich, that seems logical enough, i did feel its a bit of an add on, but the reception is fantastic. have you got pics of the original antenna? because my phone side of things is fine, if the antenna houses both, why would one go and not the other?

dreamworx, the £15 ones are on ebay - I can get the original antennas cheaper, it's just if you feel confident enough to fit them.

Oz, it's the antenna on your roof! There are two antennas inside it and a gyroscope, the GPS antenna is very sensitive to shock motion and can damage easily.
