some of you remember that i've been having a knocking metallic rattle from the NSF, and i thoght it may have something to do with a door check strap. well that was because i didnt know what a door check strap was! ::)

anyways, its a duff drop link...

....

and...

that is one very broken front spring

i want to cry! :'(

looks like no remap and induction for me this half of the year :'( :'( :'(

£100 for 1 spring, 1 drop link and labour at our family mechanic. and thats OEM parts. obviously thats the wrong way to go. so i'll be having to go for the likes of eibach. hmmmm, money money money

Better to replace the springs and droplinks on both sides regardless of whether its OEM or not.

If you can get the strut and new spring to me then I will assemble it for you ..if thats any help to you (y)

If you can get the CAR to me I will do the whole thing for you weather permitting :)

you're too kind phill (y) thank you

what i could do with help with is finding the right kit (springs + shocks) for the right price that is better quality and lower. i dont want to mix and match, i want something that is made for each other.

my garage said springs snapping is very common now, they do about 20 a month. worst culprit are renaults, which snap and drop the car onto the ground, going through the carrier and slicing the brake lines in the process. some fatalities they know of too  renault, along with others, didnt even have a basic recall like ours.

so fiat are'nt that bad after all

I've had 3 stilos and 7 springs. All of these have been replaced FOC through FIAT so might be worthwhile taking it to fiat and finding out if they'll do it

I wonder if the rise of speed bumps are a factor to this,I myself have noticed alot more suspension problems than there used to be...just a thought???

All these stories of broken springs are givig me concern. How concerned should we all be? My rear springs have lost a bit of their coating on one turn each but appear still sound. No new springs fitted to this car yet but then Ive only just covered 116K in this sprightly young (02 plate)stilo of mine. I did have 3 new front shocks under warranty to eliminate the crunchy sounding suspension and a set of drop links before the warranty expired on mileage grounds rather than age.

Why not go for the boge shocks and springs I know they wont lower the car but they aint harf good for the price ;)

i dont want to mix and match phill. besides, boge dont make the same shocks front and rear (chrisMclark).

im really thinking of the interalloy coilover kit on ebay?

i need to get this done next week, please advise me on what to do. some links and prices would be great too.

thanks

You dont have to go for the uprated gas shock from boge they do a oem one as well ..have a word with Dom in roath auto spares ;) I wouldn't fit coilovers for road use tbo I would stay standard and get the best ride from the JTD ..you dont want to be scraping the arse off the stilo on speed bumps do you ..Cardiff is becoming the speed bump capital of GB :bang:

in all honesty i dont like the OEM dampening on the stilo as its is, hence why i dont want to go just springs.

everyone seems to be saying eibach pro (-30mm) with the OE shocks should be ok.

i really like the idea of the gas shocks, but looking for some options at the right price.

ive dropped proven products an email, see what they say and are able to supply.

Surprises me that as the standard struts are a wee bit like bicycle pumps imho :p OK, maybe not that bad but still pretty naff ;) Certainly the Eibach springs and standard struts would be a fair medium term compromise - half way there m8 (y)

I suspect one of the best options is also one of the cheapest.

Standard OEM springs with Boge Turbo dampers (or similar) on the front. (y)

Admittedly this wont make any cosmetic changes but it should return very good handling.

The really clever part would be to pay for fitting of the uprated dampers whilst getting FREE springs from your favorite Fiat dealer/garage ;)

ok proven-products have come back to me with some info,

they do something called a System 2 kit, which is supplied, sourced, and put together by them. its a 30mm to 40mm drop with uprated gas shocks. the kit also carries a 12 garantee.

£269 + £9 delivery (including performancestilo discount)

so all in £280, but they haven really given me much info about the products used ???

ok, on another note, rang my dealer, they said that at dealer level they cant do anything for me, and that i'd have to take things up with fiat uk. they said that i'll have a case and fiat uk would most likely turn round and get them to replace my spring for free, but procedure wise it has to go through fiat uk first.

in all honesty i wasnt looking for anything from fiat. i bought the car a year ago knowing that i'd probably have a broken spring or two at some point
