Heya everyone. This is my first post in the forum, wonder if anyone can help!?

I have a 5dr 1.2 Stilo Active and would like to change the cigar lighter. It doesnt hold my Mp3 player plug well as it just keeps popping out and doesnt charge it up. My SatNav one still doesnt secure properly but at least it can get a charge going. Went to Fiat the other day and they said it would be about £15 to buy a new one which aint that bad, but then they wanted like £60 to fit it, which I thought was steep for a silly lighter lol

Does anyone know how I could change it myself? Think the middle section might need to be taken out, but havent a clue where to start with that lol My sister has just bought a new Punto Grande and they have power outlets instead of cigar lighters....would prefer one of them!

Thanks

Mine works finely (y)

only problem is that its set quite far back, so you have trail the sat nav lead all around to the front of the windscreen .

i try and charge my satnav up before i set off (home charger), and prefer it to be at the right hand side of the windscreen where its out of the way, and a little bit easier to see :p

It's useful though, it means if I want to charge my phone, headset, sat nav whatever I can sling it in the glove box so no trailing cables everywhere.

true :p

the stilo needs a secret coin storage place. near the gearstick isnt good enough, and if you load it up some of the coins fall out

my micra used to have a little pull out drawer just below the cd player

As Chris has said it's much neater and more practical if you add an adapter.

Here's mine down by my left feg.

My coin holder is always full and coins never fall out.

You don't want instructions on what coins to fit do you :p :D

yea i wudnt mind changin this myself?
see the one from Fiat, is that just a replacement for the actual charger itself, you have to use all the original trim i presume?
i like Chris's idea, i mite do that as phone charger and sat nav tucked away neatly wud be nice
for me thats my Subway cupboard :D it fits a 12" beautifully

tho i have had this problem with coins of the fallin out quite a bit, problem is, when they fall out they fall on the subframe of the seating and my guess is that something is stuck in the release for the seat, cz it doesnt slide foward nemore when i pull the lever to tilt the seat foward (3 door) bt it does slide foward when you pull the tab under the seat up, weird one

I had one of those splitters in the same place Argo, but this plug kept falling out, and it meant I couldn't use the lighter (I'm a dirty filthy tabbing b*st*rd :D) so I opted for the hardwire approach. Wasn't difficult at all, hardest part was getting the cable through the bulkhead when I fitted my sub. Took the sub out after the amp drained my battery and used the live feed for the auxilliary fusebox in the upper glove box.

There's a size difference!

Just a general point and probably one that is completely USELESS to everyone here, but something I discovered years ago...

European lighter sockets are BIGGER than Japanese or American lighter sockets (really, I'm not making this up). I discovered this by accident when I tried to fit a FIAT lighter plug into a replacement socket that I had purchased, and it didn't fit.

Conversely the Belkin Auto Kit (iPod charger/lineout converter) was always a slack fit in my Alfa and a lottery in my X1/9 (twist until the light comes on, etc.)

It's not a fault with the socket, it's a size thing!

To get around it, you can purchase a replacement 'general purpose' socket (from Halfords perhaps?) which will be smaller if it's the Japanese/American standard, and then carefully replace the original with this (will need to crimp/splice the wires), and suddenly everything will be a nice tight fit.

Cheers,
-Alex

Hi, I'm in the similar situation; mobile holder charger cable is too short to cig lighter.
Want to run a cable from the battery, as mentioned in this thread, but not sure where to get the suitable bits from.
Does anyone know if you can buy a extra cig lighter wiring kit?

I.e.

length of suitable grade wire, with fuse

Cig female adapter

Fittings etc

Thanks
