The S has:
Seats...
...er...
...um...
tinted windows
4 speaker stereo
Folding rear seat

The SX added to this with:
Front fogs (the ELX did have these)
Electric windows
Central locking
Height adjustable drivers seat
Height adjustable wheel
60/ 40 split rear seat on pre-facelift models
4 speaker stereo

The ELX had, in addition to everything on the SX/ ELX above:
'One shot' operation of windows
Remote locking
Body colour bumpers (the SX got this in the 1997 facelift)
Nicer interior trim (subjective, I know)
Rear headrests
Electric sunroof (the 75SX/ TDSX had a manual sunroof, the 55SX didn't have one)
Drivers airbag (from 1995 onwards)

The SX only has a 4-speaker stereo. 2 in the dash, 2 in the rear shelf supports. GT and ELX had the 6-speaker system which basically added a pair of woofers in the doors.
The SX also has a temperature gauge, a rev counter, and those plastic strips down the doors.
The ELX has a centre console too.

Some do have ABS, I'm not sure if it was standard on the higher-spec ones (e.g. ELX/GT, my SX doesn't have ABS) or if it was only available as an option. As far as I know, the only Mk1s with air con were GTs sold in mainland Europe.

ABS was standard, from launch (1994), on the GT model.

ABS was never standard on any other Punto Mk1 but was an option on all bar the '55' models and any of the diesel 'S' versions.

Air Conditioning became an option at some point in the model-period, I am guessing at the 1997 facelift, when it was an option on the 75SX and later 85SX 16v and the ELX 16v (inc. Cabrio) and Sporting 16v models. It was quite expensive (about £900) and I don't think I have ever seen a Mk1 RHD with Air Con fitted. Air Con was never available on the GT model (not sure why, perhaps a lack of space for the compressor under the bonnet). Edit: If the LHD GT had it then it must be something to do with the location of the compressor on LHD GT models being right where the steering column is for RHD

Forgot to mention the late-model 1999 upgrades, but for the record at the same time as the SX got some goodies, the 'S' also got 14" wheel trims, upholstered headrests, the full-dials layout (rev counter, temp gauge etc.) and new upholstery. Not to forget the clear-indicators. It was the same spec as the 1998 'Team' special edition, except that car also had a manual sunroof (and the Team was also available again in 1999). Confused

Re: JTD owners contact me for more power

Nice car I had the 3dr version till i part-exed it for a 4dr (don't laugh) Skoda. Need to find a buyer for my Punto JTD PSI tuning box. Do you know any JTD owners you want to change the de-tuned 80hp phut-phut into 105hp HGT? Check dieselchiptuning.com for the spec. of the psi box and price. I think there selling for £370. Mine's immaculate and half price ono. Can demo fit to any punto 80hp jtd. I can honestly say it transforms the car into a little rocket. Pls contact me [email protected] for more detail.

EDIT BY DAVE:- i will leave this here for few days, but it should be in the classified section really, as its nothing to do with the topic

I've always wondered why though

Italian laws are quite strict about what car you can drive when you pass your test (which I think is based around the engines capacity). Therefore, to give the Italian youngster something with a bit more go (and they can spend more time revving the nuts off) they put the 6 speed box in with the 1108cc engine.

Basically, the ratios in 1st and 2nd are almost the same as the 5 speed box, and 6th is the same ratio as 5th in the 5 speed box. However, 3rd, 4th and 5th are stacked together where 3rd and 4th are in the normal box, giving the driver more chance of being in the power band (with the 55 engine the term power band needs to be interpreted loosely :D ).

The other benefit being the 6 speed box is not the usual Fiat 'loose spanner in a bag of bolts' affair and has a much, much better feel and more positive change to it.

The 55EL 3dr was the same spec as the SX minus the electric windows and central locking, but plus the body colour bumpers (and a few other 'sporty' bits I think). The 55EL was later replaced by a 55SX 6-speed which was exactly the same specification as a normal 55SX. Never seen a 55SX 6 speed but I have seen a few EL's from time to time ;)

What about the HLX?

This topic relates to Mk1 Puntos, with the HLX only being available on the MK2 ;)

I did a thorough breakdown of Mk2 (and 2.5) Punto's too, but it's hidden inside a topic rather than a 'sticky'
