I have two hoses which end up going into the airbox on my 1.2 Punto, Mk1, 1998. They are both split and wondered if I could replace them and what they were called? Also would these split hoses cause a petrol smell inside my car?

shouldnt imagine they would cause a petrol smell. but they look like breather hoses. the back one is definatly a breather hose. the front looks like it does same job. i own a 8v so not 100% sure on the front one. but the back.... breather have a look on ebay see if they come in a pair

Always replace any split or collapsed hoses, in a damaged condition they will only detract from the whole driving, performance & economy experience in one way or not so obvious others. They will send a smell into the cabin, fumes are not good for driving as headaches & concentration can lapse from Carbon Monoxide poisoning...

With the breather hose split you can find engine oil being sprayed around the engine bay and under the bonnet.

The split breather pipe shouldnt spray oil about unless there are other problems, but it will allow air in where it shouldnt and that will make the engine run rough. At other times fumes will get out.

So check all the hoses and replace/repair any that are tired /split
