Hi all, as the summer weather is setting in (its lush outside atm where i am), i am thinking about a project for next year: modding a 1.2 16v Punto Mk1 Cabriolet.

Just wondered, from the Cabriolet owners out there, what is the car like in the winter (does the roof hold up well, or is it hard to find a cabrio with a roof in good nick), and being a soft top, what does the car handle like?

Just after any initial observations about the car really (y)

Cheers

lol you and your anti-green...

I was thinking Black with a light brown roof

hmmm could work:chin:

wow this one looks nice...

Theres a sexy yellow one that lives in my area. Its canary yellow, and has a full abarth kit. Looks the bees knees like. I hate driving past it because it makes me look at me and my 5door 60 in disgust. haha

Hey, I love my Punto Convertable,

I want to do mine up but its getting the time and money together.

They are great in winter, dont get too cold and hud stands up to the frost and keeps the heat in.

Just watch out for split Rear window. costs a bomb to get taken out and replaced due to it been stitched in.

Mines done 127k and still running fine. So millage shouldnt be any higher than that on like a R-reg.

go for 1.2 16v on R-Reg - V-Reg

1.6 ones are only 8v.

Good Look.

I have a cabrio aswell and I was wondering about the gearing ratio on mine. When i'm in 5th gear at about 60mph its goes along at 3000rpm. Is this to high as it sounds quite loud and so i don't tend to go any faster as I feel that it's travelling along at to high revs. At about 80mph its just over the 4000rpm mark and sounds really loud as if it needs to go up a gear.

Yeah for a small engined car, but I have the 1.6 version. So I was thinking that it should surely have lower revs?

The 1.6 is actually very similar to the 1.2 16v. Don't worry about it, most engines rev higher when you are cruising in top gear, you probably only notice it because you dont normally wait for it to rev that high when you change gear (y)

[hi ive got 1.6 cab and love it met blue with 17" fox r 2,s on it body kit and side skirts just got a smart bonnet off ebay for £50 only thing is not much off the punto car fits it main problem seems to be the back window and if the hood does not work just check the over ride lever on the pump body

Hi folks,

First reply to Lytescary (long time no see). It's perfectly OK to run at 3000rpm at 60mph. I have found the most efficient speeds are between 2500-3000rpms. Albeit the power of my 16v comes in at 4500rpm and peaked at 5500rpm, but I would not recommend this for a car of this age.

For Snapyoursticks, I would recommend you to buy a 1.2 (please excuse me for those driving a 1.6), as there are plenty of improvements in this latest gamma version after hearing the feedbacks from the 1.6s. The major change is the way how the engine compartment is organised. The ECU is now placed at the top of the compartment instead of the bottom to avoid moisture. Secondly, the spare wheel is now stored inside the boot. Thirdly, the materials for the hood had also improved as well.

As for all convertibles, water will drip in near the A-pillar in very heavy rain, but I would guess that you would not be driving it in bonnie winter Scotland?? In regards to handling, I have never skid at all...you need to drive it like a Fiat, not a Ferrari, then you are fine. Make sure you choose the simplest version - ie no ABS, no Automatic gearbox, then you will have plenty years of summer joy with your car!

Take a look at my photos and good luck!
Cheers
