I bought my 2012 punto GBT 5 door just over 2 months ago now from a main fiat dealer. But after a few days I noticed a slight vibration while idling, when im driving its fine only happens when the engine is at idle.

The vibration isn't that strong, it comes and goes every few seconds and you can feel it though your seat and the floor pan. Plus it looks like the engine movement in the bay is moving more than it should too. Plus the vibration is less while the clutch pedal is depressed.

I took it back to fiat and one of the mechanices that looked at it first said he could feel something, so he booked it in. A few days later I took it in fiat to be sorted out and the same guy said its normal and they was nothing wrong it the car:confused:

Im thinking of taking to another garage today just to check it over. I suspect it could be the engine mounts, but I dont really know. Anyone have any ideas ?

Hello !

What is the GBT version ? Have not seen this version in my country...

Which engine do you have ?

Do you have aircon on ? If you disable it it is the same ?

Sorry for late reply but I own a 1.4i punto GBT 5 door version the new 2012 model.

It also vibrates once when you rev while in idle between 1500 - 2000 revs but has less vibrations while the clutch pedal is depressed.

What gets me the most is the guy at fiat that first saw it said they was a problem. But while it was being looked at, the same guy then turned around and say it was normal:confused:. I just think the dealer is pulling a fast one myself.

Not sure about aircon, I suppose its less due to the engine idling incressing, not sure to be honest.

The GBT version is a UK special edition after Fiat teamed up with British Cycling.

Going back to the original thread, when I first got my previous car (MiTo) the passenger seat would vibrate on and off. It sounded like it was coming from the floorplan but once the garage greased the seat rails is stopped for a while.

Hey just tell the service center guys to do the settings of
Engine idling so as to reduce the vibration of the car

Im taking it back to fiat tomorrow and see what they gota say. No new car should you be feeling vibrations in the cabin when the engine is idling.

By the way it does it when the engine is fully warmed up.

about 800rpm to 900rpm. I didn't have time to take it into fiat yesterday. Had problem with my little girl so I take it next week now.

Ok. strange.

Here a pic of my Punto 1.4 77CV hot idle :

It seem to be the same as you : 800-850 RPM
No strange vibration. With the aircon there is a little bit it seems, but not tested a lot.

Well I did some testing tonight again and I noticed when the aircon is on the vibration stops and it seems the engine idling smoothes itself out. Once the aircon stops the engine seems rough agian (like the ldling is too low) but the rev counter is still the same. Im guesting its this roughness of idle that is causing the slight vibration in the cab. Now I can go back to fiat and say this too them

Hi,
Just throw a few ideas in the pot!
Is the compressor driven by the cam belt or its own fom a buddy pulley. Check the tensions are all correct. On tick over the ecu will possibly give lowest fuel mix so will run rougher until it sences the load from the air con command so goes richer to meet the load demand. Ask Mr Fiat niceley, for a full check or update if the problem has been reprted elsewhere in the EU on the ECU programme.
Goodluck,
Iain
PS always ask the sales man to demo another car on the Lot to see if theirs does it after a test drive?

I go tomorrow and now at least I got something to show then, at the moment fiat are just fobbin me off with excuses like its normal and all cars do the same:confused:

A car sold in 2012 must have a very smooth idle. You should not have vibration.

If you can make the demo with/without aircon to your dealer it can't say this is normal.

If you can make a video it can help us to see the problem, but it is hard to make videos of noises or vibrations...
