hi
i hope you dont mind this being my first post!

Last night about 20 miles from home my 52' punto suddenly lost a lot of power going around a roundabout and the injection warning light came on. i drove home but the car runs very lumpy, the warning light has stayed on and it accelerates slower than a old vw camper i had, it struggled to do anything over 40 mph and really struggled with hills and sounded like it would stall at any moment while idleing. i havent drove it since i got home last night.

any idea what could be wrong?

Welcome to the forum

It could be a whole number of things electronically. Best advice is to get a diagnostic done at a fiat garage. The ECU will have stored the fault and may have shut the engine into a get you home mode to protect the engine. Trouble is, getting the car to a fiat garage. To be on the safe side i wouldn't fancy driving the car. If you have breakdown cover they should relay you to one as long as it is no more than 10 miles away. Call your nearest fiat garage and ask thier advice on whether it would be advisable to drive it to them or not if you are struggling.

hi if its missing i would check to see if it is firing on all 4 cyclinders by pulling off 1 ht lead at a time, if u find one or two that it is not firing on i would try another coli pack.

thanks for the replys guys, my dad and i had a look tonight and it appears one of the spark plugs is at fault, but the dark evening stopped play before a new one could be fitted but fingers crossed

well, it wasn't the spark plug :(

fitting a new coil didnt work either, any other ideas?
How much would Fiat charge to do a ECU diagnostic test?

This might sound daft but did you check for a breakdown in each HT lead as well as check each plug. I had just this problem last year....warning light on dash for engine management but infact all it was, was a dodgy lead.

I’ve got the same problem as you. Garage told me it was only 2 cylinders firing up which means the 2 that are working have to pull the other 2 round manually. I’m going to need a new ECU and locksets and keys, as its only telling the engine to fire 2 cylinders up. Been about 2-3 months now. Really haven’t got the money atm.
