You look like a helpful lot on here... any ideas?

Wife's 2003 punto is being weird. It starts and the warning lights all go out ok, but when you turn off the ignition some warning lights stay on.
It depends what lights were on at the time you turned the ignition off...

I'm having to keep the car running and use the foot brake with the handbrake released so that all lights are out when I turn off the ignition (otherwise the handbrake light stays on).

Thanks for any help, before I ring up the Fiat dealer :(

(I don't like this stupid little car much anyway  We had a 1997 Punto which was great so we thought we'd get another one, but this one's just yucky (n) )

Ok, I'll give it a try, thanks. How do I disconnect the body computer? (If I disconnect the battery, wouldn't I have to get the radio code?)

I'm sure they're generally good cars, but our '97 Punto was a better ride and less creaky than this one. I've just got a thing against modern cars anyway - if anything goes wrong with the electrics or engine management, you're just at the mercy of the dealers - at least with an old car you can fix pretty much anything yourself.

Car's out at the moment - should be able to give it a go in about half an hour.
Is it easy to describe where I disconnect the body computer?

Fixed! T14086 :worship:

Cheers mate, I disconnected the battery for, well about 1.5hrs by the time I got back from the pub ;) (gotta make the most of the weather eh?). That did the trick. Didn't need the radio code either (so there is some clever stuff in these Puntos).

BTW, I went to the wrong forum a minute ago - have you seen there's also a www.fiatforums.com  ... but I know where to go next time (y)

I'm having this problem since this morning - very strange!

All lights are fine but as soon as the ignition goes off the Oil & ECU light stays on. If I open the door and turn the ignition off, the door light stays on also! Very Odd!

I will try the above suggestion and disconnect the battery for a short time - I thought it might be something to do with dodgy wiring.

Is it going to be ok the leave the car for a day or two with the warning lights showing (without starting it) - it won't flattern the battery will it?

I just had a previous experience before leaving the interior light on and running the battery down, and hoped the warning lights wouldn't do the same.

If you have the radio code leave the car a few days with the battery disconnected. It wont go flat then either, and the problem may be gone when you get back.

Cheers. I'm not sure if I am going to get time to remove it unfortunately as I'm having to go away for a day or so this weekend :( I'm hoping that the two lights won't run the battery down but I think they are only LED's.

Just as a follow up and warning to anyone else this happens to - left my car overnight with dash lights on and totally drained the battery. So if it happens get is sorted out asap and I don't advise leaving it alone for more than 4-5 hours!

Got a new battery and all sorted now with lights fixed, needed one anyway, old one was over 6 years old.
