Hi everyone,

It only happens when the engine is completely cold (not used for 10 hours or more):
When I turn the (cold) engine on, it starts immediately (as always), but the oil pressure warning light stays on for about 2-3 seconds. For that period of time the engine sounds loud and "scratchy", as if it lacks oil. After that, the oil warning light goes out an the engine sounds healthy.
This has been happening for at least one year now.
When the engine is hot, the oil light goes out right after the engine begins to run and no strange noise occur.

Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Needless to say that the oil level of the engine is checked and that the problem remains even after oil/filter changes.

It' s a 1997 Punto 60SX MK1, I' ve done about 80.000miles (130.000km).

hi ther sounds like the oil feeder pipe to the top end ie cam shaft and valves .try an good quality engine oil cleaner followed with an oilfilter and oil change.

i have exactly the same happen to me...
i have a punto mk1 1997 1.2 sx and when i havent run the car for a few hours like in the morning and when i come back from work when i put the key in and turn i get a really scratchy noise for a few seconds with a light which im guessing is the same one as your getting come on... but then everything will be fine.. i also have had complete oil chance etc and still the same prob.. very wierd!!
