Yes another Proxy alignment thread, but this is going to be a strange one

right so have a 51 plate mk2/a in work currently with the usual flashing mileage, so proxy aligned it with our snapon modus ultra wouldn't set carried on flashing(used it in the past when i swapped to sporting clocks in my old 5door mk2) so i don't think the computer itself is at fault.

from past experience with mine i know proxy alignment wont work if the clocks are lower mileage then whats on the body computer, so got the customer to bring in all the mot history for the vehicle and thats all correct to what the cluster is saying, so we decided to replace with a cheap low mileage set off ebay just incase the cluster is fualty, carried out mileage correction to make sure the mileage is the same as the old cluster then carried out a proxy aliment again the same issue wouldn't stop flashing.

i've got a feeling that the car has had a second hand ecu kit fitted due to the fact the ignition key is different. Has anyone had anything like this in the past
cheers

If ign key is different, ECU kit is likely. Might present a big problem.

My experience of body computers is that you can disable lots of stuff, but can't add anything. So a body computer from the top model can be told to ignore front foglights if a base model does not have them for example. But if the ECU came from a low model, and now finds foglamps, airbags, etc., it won't cope, and you can't add them to the menus. Extra or fewer doors might also cause grief. Any replacement ECU needs to come from an identical spec, or higher spec vehicle.

Need to question the owner I think.
