I had the pleasure to leave my Punto at one of the airport parking sites (I use them regularly without a problem). About two months ago I had suddenly pulled my gear knob off but was able to fit it back without a problem. So I am aware that this was already broken. However, driving from the car park I realized that they must have done something else to it. Now I cannot select gear 5 as it is permanently in the reverse 'mode' (I can easily select 1-4 and reverse without pulling the 'reverse ring'). I realized that the spring under the gear knob is also missing. But I am not sure if the missing spring could cause the gear to remain in reverse mode. Any advice of what to look for? And any advice if the gear knob comes with the spring when bought new?
Thank you

Pull up the leather/vinyl boot and under it you can see the reverse selector preventer is just a catch to stop you going to the right, and also acts to guide you into 5th when the ring is not pulled up.. with the preventer not down you then find it hard to find 5th because you go too far to the right but it might still be available once you realise where it is.

Hello guys and thank you for your help suggestions,
the solution was much simpler than I thought... the leather cover 'shoe' was attached other way 'round... once turned around, I had a 5th gear. So the only thing that's missing now is the spring... fingers crossed I can find this at some scrapy
Thank you again
