I thought I would try a new crank sensor to see if it solves my problems, as it's cheaper than an new ECU, however looking on ECP it seems there are 2 different types.

Two of them say engine number from 2192182 and one says engine number to 2192182

Are there really 2 different types of sensor depending on the engine number? Also, if this is true, what happens if you have engine number 2192182? lol

Are the 16v and 8v the same crank sensor? And u lisred 2x same numbers.....

Yes, the number was the same, but one said "up to" and 2 said "from" so I assumed "up to" meant any number prior to that number and "from" meant any number after that number. No idea what you do if your engine is exactly that number!

It's a 2003, with an 8v engine if that helps any.

spec of car changed in 2003 from mk2 to mk2b this is probably why you see change but as far as im aware ive not had a problem putting earlier later engines in earlier later 8 valves and having crank sensor issues with compatability
i would prefer you tried a cheap s/h one from the breakers first to rule it out so i dont get accused of wasting your dosh:)
