Hello, Got to the car after the kids swimming lesson, and it wouldn't start!!!!
But made a whinning noise!
After a couple of attempts, car did start.
Called at the shop on way home, tried to start car again.. same problem..won't start and whinning noise, took even more attempts to get going.
Got home..
Later tried to statr car again... nothing apart from the same whinning noise!!!

Is it the batterey?
Starter motor?

Or something else?

if its confirmed the whirring is the solenoid not throwing the pinion out properly then to be honest a replacement is the answer
be it s/h if monies too tight to mention

Sound too like the Solenoid isn't activating up correctly
Either partially or not at all

Mine recently too has done this, but its behaving - For now....

I can get 1 from local scrappies for £10, but thats not tested or guarentee'd

But the starter motor is pretty darn easy todo tbh....

Remember battery off and out - battery tray can be removed just so you can get your elbow in a lil easier

Ziggy

get the starter on the floor
hot wire it up
you will hear if it sounds right and see if solenoid throws out nicely and returns too

only use duck oil on the pinion shaft too as its very thin oil ,anything else will cause the bendix to stick and or allow things to stick to it or evaporate

Ah yes - the Battery jump lead and the screwdriver :)

Just dont do what i did and managed to weld the tip of the screwdriver to the motor....
Sparks are fun!
