I wonder if you actually did the whole test by the book how long it would really take?
Bet it ain't 45mins. ;)

Good to see that HID people will have to have Auto leveling and washers now :)

But it wont stop the boy racers will it :(

Nice little read there tho :)

the bit about decats mite thow!

They will just swap bulbs/headlights out for a day to pass then change them back to blinding everyone with bright blue lights after they "pass"

And you can get bolt in de cat sections depending on where the cat is so will be a small job to swap in and out for the MOT

but how many times are they willing to keep stripping there cars down just to get an mot

they not bother getting an MOT will they?
Or they get annoyed and keep stock on because of the hassel

Putting a cat on now and then - Alot of work, and you'll have to run it for a while before so the ecu can settle down again

The cat being removed should show on the smoke test, also shortly on the mot vosa will put the laptop into the obd and see what has been changed emissions wise. At the moment vosa are trialing this for HGV and PSV mot tests

my hids are fine in my sei as i have the badboy bonnet it covers the headlights just enough to stop the lights blinding eveyone altho ill probley be one of the many that'll change them for a day, mine are 6k aswell at 35w so bright white and theyre pointed down to the floor most of the time

and hopefully ill have a custon cat/decat pipe when the new engine is in my lil car

dont mean to come across as arrogant btw

Yeah some HIDs are okay, still way too blue but they dont blind other drivers and i dont really mind them its just the cars that havnt had them aligned properly that are dangerous.
How are you going to pass the MOT though with a decat pipe? or will you get a race cat?

The bulbs are not a reason to fail, its the self adjustment and lense cleaning system that will cause a fail.

i had mine re aligned the day they went in and with the bonnet cutting most of the glare through the tops of the lenses i dont think they are too much of a problem

as for the de-cat i plan on having a cat with flages on the ends to just bolt in/out at mot time :D

I'm pretty sanguine about it all, but then, there are precious few cars (or bikes) I want which were made post 2000.

The CAT thing always amuses me. You get very little, if any, performance increase by running without a CAT unless you run a very different engine map. Hardly anyone does, so.............

HIDs I don't like. The trick is to run decent headlamps (generally always round ones) and/or spots or driving lights for fill in.

I dont like HIDs but the new rules are ridiculous,

You must have automatic levellers and you must have lens washers, the idea is to make it impossible to add aftermarket kits to older cars as self levelling headlights is a comparatively new thing, there is however a clause that cars with self levelling suspension are accepted so the hydropnumatic citroens as long as they have head light washers are all acceptable
Also many older estate cars have load adjustable rear suspension which will also pass. Headlight washers are easy to add even the punto mk2 and mk2b have them in some markets which mean parts must be available. Im sure if you were so inclined something to wiggle your lights over bumps would be pretty easy to make.

As for Cats my old mondeo passed year after year without a cat because the old zetec was (and still is) well renowned for low emissions it technically didn't need the cat to meet standards, but required it under legislation. To an MOT Inspector however it looked like any other cat as the internal ceramic media had been removed and replaced with a straight through pipe, they won't pull your exhaust apart to check? But if it fails emissions then you have an issue.

Many Zetec owners will tell you that the engine did benefit rather a lot from running without a cat the ford fitted item was pretty small and did create a lot of back pressure choking the engine to some degree, (My 1.3 punto has a bigger cat)So removing it did let it breath much easier.
