Hi,

I've just put a new engine in my 1.2 8v ELX. It's a direct replacement, using my ECU, Loom, Key etc. Everything is original bar the block and head.

The orange key code light is on constantly, I get fuel to the rail, starter turns the engine over but there's no spark so it's immobilised.

The red ecu light is also on (right hand side, underneath speedometer) but i'm not sure if this is meant to be on until it starts?

The battery has been disconnected for approximately two weeks and i don't have the code for emergency start-up. I bought the car requiring an engine but the key code light used to go off after 3 secs so it's definitely since the new engine has went in.

Any help would be much appreciated as to what to check etc......

Cheers

I think i've sussed it!

I am using the black box mounted on the back of the throttle body from the new engine but i think i should be using mine?

Please confirm?

Thanks

Yes, the ECU from the back of the Engine should be the original one, NOT the donor Cars Ecu

as the Body computer, and the ECU for the engine are linked together, seperate them and you'll have the problem you currently have now

Pop the Original ECU back in and in thoery should still work!

I had no idea that was the ecu! i'm a vaux lad, i'm used to a big shiney ecu in the drivers footwell behind the kick panel.

The funny thing is i sold my old inlet yesterday with the ecu attached but i didn't have time to post today otherwise i'd be crying!

Cheers

Very Very Lucky Lad!
if you'd sold it - you'd be pretty much screwed, and on the look for a Lock and Ecu Set

Stuff the Donors ECU after you've definatly got your car running!

johnhara1 you must be stuck in corsa mk1 land as later corsas with 12 valve and 16 valve engines also have brainy box nailed to inlet and sometimes refuse to come off

(y) you got me, i've had loads of corsas, mostly c20xe conversions or old 1.2 8v for pottering around in.

All working fine now after ecu swap! Learn something new every day......

Hi dont know if ayone can help but i have exactly the same problem with my punto , just changed engine and key code light on , wont start , i have kept the old ecu on the new engine but still no joy. someone suggested i take it to fiat to get the key coded???
anyone got any other ideas??
any help would be great , thanks

If you have the original ECU body computer and key its got to be a connection issue because from the systems point of view nothing has changed. Plug in a laptop with FiatScan and see what it shows.

thanks will try that. but just to clarify the ecu body is just the black bit yeh?

I missed out a comma. the system is
# Engine ECU
# Body Computer in the fuse box
# Immobiliser part in fuse box and part in steering column
# ignition key transponder

All must be from the original car or the system will not run.
