Hey all, I tried a search and couldn't bring much up. I have a 2000 MK2 ELX 16v 1242, what's the method for changing my front pads? The car had an MOT last month and although passed one of the advisorys was on the front brakes, so want to get them changed.

Got the parts sorted and ready to go today at changing them, how do I go about releasing them from the caliper? Are they held in via bolts or clips/pins?

Anything in particular I have to watch out for? Never changed pads on a Punto, though changed them on virtually everything else.

:D

its pretty basic tbh

Get to the point where you have the Car on a jack and wheel off

There is a small BodyClip/Retaining Clip On a Solid Bar under the caliper, pull that out, Pull out the pin was held in place with the Clip (may be stiff some Very Gentle Persuasion will help)

Then the Brake caliper will most likely pop up - Spin it right round/up
Pop Old pads out - Push Brake piston Back in nice and slowly
And refit new pads, drop caliper back down - push bar back in - and then retaining clip

Its 20Mins tops to change the pads on a punto

Ziggy

Thats for the 8v Puntos....

For the 16v Puntos, jack it up, remove the wheel, remove the anti rattle spring, take off the 2 covers at the back for the sliders, use a 7 Hex key and loosen each one first, then wind them out as far as you can. Pull the caliper towards you to retract the piston in a bit then the caliper should come off normally (use a lever if it wont come off) :)

Don't forget to remove the cap off the fluid reservoir if you need to push the piston back. It will lessen the risk of "flipping" the seals in the master cylinder..

(been there done that)

Awesome guys thanks for the help, it's pi**ing down with rain at the moment and sod getting soaking wet :D

I'll get them done tomorrow, just assume I've done them unless I come back asking for more help lol
