I have had my car into a local garage as a few days ago the car started making a roaring sound.

It appears that the Cat convert on the manifold has gone. I have been quoted £240 inc fitting for the work. Does this sound a good price.

Although the car is just used by my wife since she has just passed her test and only cost £400 so i am wondering if the cost is worth it. I have been told that if i can find the part cheaper they will fit for £40.

Does anybody have any ideas where i would be able to find this part, scrap yard or website?

The car is a Y reg 2001 1.2 16v punto.

Thanks for you help

Does the car have catalyst cans on the front manifold? These can be replaced with a plain tube. Online Fiat tuning shops could help with that.

The main cat under the floor must be working. You can get one from any good car breakers. If it looks ok and does not rattle it should be alright.

The front cats are to clean up cold start fumes, but they restrict the exhaust and overall the car will use more fuel so its arguable if they have any ecological value. The main cat is a must-have with modern cars to control the emissions.
