Hi all, looking for some advice on a punto i might purchase.
The seller is saying the car has problems starting from cold and has linked to a cold start valve.
It runs perfect when it warms up but is hard to start.
It's a 98 S plate 1.2 16v sporting, 72k,with no mot but is advertised at only £250.
Does this sound like an expensive problem or simply a visit to my local scrappie or car parts website?

Could just be the coolant temp sensor (roughly £15 new) but to know for sure i'd have to see the car.

Would it maybe have something to do with the coils?

Usually things to check are (for starting problems):

Battery
Starter Motor
Coilpack
HT Leads
Spark Plugs

It seems strange how it's alright when it's warmed up, but I'd check those other things as well first, as they can cause issues.

I had a problem with my starter motor, hard to start when car was cold but when warmed up it seems to start up fine.

Are there any other problems? Does it seem to turn over alot? Struggles in to life? Make any weird noises? Misfiring?

Hi have a 1.6 sporting was runing fine. Went to start it the other morning and it started fine drove down the road and back with out turning off the engine then once i got back and turned it off it wouldnt start agin so checked and charged the battery and is fine put it back on this morning started it and was fine turned it off and same agin.
Just seems like it dont wanna really start when is warm or something.
PLEASE HELP!!???

I don't think there is a cold start valve. More likely coolant temp sensor. But it could be a head gasket issue. I'd be inclined to do a compression test to try and determine the state of the engine. They're about £15 from Halfords. It's cheap, so try and determine why no MOT.
