I have a 2001 Punto and it has been working well for the last few months. but a few days ago i started it up and drove it for a few minutes and the car started to struggle, and then it just lost most of the power. The engine was still running but when i put my foot down it doesn't work. It also stalls nearly every time i slow down (its not my driving that is stalling it.) and once when i was actually mid driving it stalled and i nearly hit a wall cause the power steering went off.
The car will start well and if not moving it will stay on, but after driving a few metres it loses power.
I have had it looked at by a friend of mine and he checked all the main wires and the gasket, but he doesn't know what the problem is.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so how did you fix it.
thanks

could be a number of things..

1) the clutch could be slipping.
2) spark plugs need changing.
3) timing belt on it way out...

any more symptoms...

i had the guy i know check the spark plugs and he cleaned them up, so it's not that.
those symptoms are the only one's i know of, they are
1) the car begins to sort of splutter when i am driving and it then it just stops working, even thought the engine is still running
2) stalling very regularly when slowing down and starting up
3) car runs fine if it's not moving

thats all i can think of, there is no smoke coming from anywhere.
