Bit of a noob question...where can I find the air flow meter on my 1.2? i've had a glance over the bay but can't see anything immediate that could be it...is it under the air box housing itself? Had a search through a few posts but couldn't actually see any with a location but some did say that the 1.2 punto didn't have one...but none were for a mk3

Cheers Lee

Im pretty sure it dosent have one.

Why do you need to locate it?

Can anyone point out where it is on a 53 Punto 1.3 Multijet diesel?

Is there any kind of online guide which points out the location of all the major parts? If not, do you guys think it's a good idea to make one? It could be in the FAQ and would save lots of bandwidth on questions like this.

Open the bonnet. At the front (nearest headlights) right of the engine cover (plastic thing) There is a big black tube. Where this big black tube meets the engine cover, there is a wiring multi-plug sticking vertically out of the tube. This is your MAF sensor.

Hope that helps,

Cheers fellas. Mine was hidden underneath on that pipe:

So, what exactly does this pipe do? I can see the air intake pipe to the left of our photos.

Hi mate,

The MAF or Mass Air Flow sensor, measures then amount of air entering the engine, along with its density and its temperature. This information is relaid back to the cars ECU (Engine Control Unit) which in turn makes adjustment to parameters such as fuelling etc in order to make the engine perform correctly.

When a MAF sensor is on its way out you "normally" experience a car that feels like its "running out of breath" eg the revs wont go as high as normal, and the car feels like its lacking oomph. This is because the MAF is telling the ECU that less air is being sucked into the turbo, and thus less air = less porfermance. Similar problems can occur when the temperature sensor in the MAF also gives incorrect readings, suggesting that the air is less/more dense than it really is. A good way to test it, is to try running the car with the MAF disconnected, and see if the problem persists.

Hope that helps,
Alan
