Hi mate,

sounds like your power steering is on it's way out.

It's likely to be one of two parts, power steering motor, or power steering column.

Trouble is Fiat will charge you £80 to tell you which it is, and to be honest you can pick up a refurb'd column+motor for the same price as a new motor anyway. (£200 BBA Reman on Ebay - refurb'd coulumn+motor).

In the end i decided to bypass the £80 diagnostics, buy the whole thing from BBA Reman and get a mechanic friend to fit it for free - bargain!

Alternatively you're looking at the following:

Fiat diagnosis to tell you whether it's column or motor £80
New motor (if ur lucky and it's not the column), £200 + £80 to fit at local garage.
New column (if ur unlucky or decide to skip the diagnostics), £200 + £250 for local garage to fit.
Being shafted by Fiat - £650 for new column+fitting

Hope this helps - if you've got a mechanic friend then you're definitely best off doing it all yourself!

Steve
