I've just bought a 2001 punto elx 1.9 jtd & sometimes it just wont start
if it doesn't start first time it means it isn't going to so i leave it a min or so & try again eventually it starts (usually) though it can take a while. i had to get a garage man out once ( cause i'd flattened the battery) & he said that there where 5 errors on the computer & it shouldn't start at all he cleared them & it was ok. a few days later I took it to the garage & it had no errors.
I'm putting it down to a computer glitch & avoiding using anything electrical but it still plays up ( usually when the wifes in the car ).
am i barking up the wrong tree
am i missing something simple
do i need to get a full diagnostice or should i just carry a tree branch in the boot ?

ive had similar problem for the last couple weeks, ive been jump startin it most mornings, i had alternator and battery both checked and was both charging fine. Possibility of being the glow plugs but to much hassle to change.

Since not using my cd player in the car, ive noticed its started. i think as i wasnt turning it off, just removing the fascia it was still draining the battery but once started it was re-charging it back up.

can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the ingnition on?

since replying yesterday, my car wouldnt start again this morning!! As it was left standing from around 5pm last nite it must of drained it completely. I have totally removed the CD player now an going to try that.

Does anyone else know anythink else mine could be? or any other shorts that could be causing the drain?

check the boot light isn't staying on

i also have same problem with my battery.how can you tell if its battery or the alternator thats not working properly.my battery light on dashboard is lit when car is running.went to start it this morning and its dead.any help would be appreciated please

drive to almost any car garage, and they will test your battery & alternator for free.

most likley the alternator is at fault but you may need a new batt aswell
