hi , has any one got the code for the head gasket for a
1242cc 16v punto sporting engine
year 99 mk 2

the shop i went to said 2 came up int he book,so i bought them both, but i need to work out which one it is to send it off for a decompression plate to be made. then i can take the useless one back to the shop.

i dont have the reg, as its not in the original car. but it was deffinetly a mk 2 1999.

help much appretiated.
thanks
aran.

it appears that the woman in the shop gave me 2 MPI headgaskets

one has a slot where the other has a keyhole shape.

im pretty sure the keyhole shape one is the 16v one (punto 85)

and the slot one is punto 75 1242 mpi 8 valve.

Anyone know what the difference is between the 8v & 16v gaskets - is the 16v highest compression?

I'm looking to put my existing 1108 mpi 8v head (which I've been told is the same as 1242 mpi 8v) on a 1242 16v bottom end (which I believe is the same as later model 1242 mpi 8v), any suggestions which gasket I should use?

Neither should have been skimmed before (mine hasn't & I'm looking for a nearly new bottom end) so should I just go for the latest version?

Edit: Found this https://www.fiatforum.com/cinq-sei-technical/119770-1108-1242-head-gasket.html?p=1250394

Anyone know of any obstacles/major problems I'll hit?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm using a non-skimmed head & block (or barely skimmed), with a vernier pulley installed for when I get it RR & always use BP Ultimate already out of habit, then the gasket discussed in the following thread looks to be a good candidate...

https://www.fiatforum.com/cinq-sei-technical/91116-later-metal-hg-vs-std-hg-2.html

BUT - I freely admit that my understanding isn't up to scratch, I've never taken the head off my engine before so not sure exactly how things mate up (partly why I'm fiddling with the car in the 1st place, to do a bit of hands on learning). Say I'm using a gasket for a 1242 on a 1242 block mated to a 1108 head, will I actually get a lip between the gasket & the head?

I'm trying to avoid buying a selection of gaskets & having spares I can't use, or having to have my car hanging around in pieces for longer than necessary while I source a correct gasket after I get to compare measurements.
