Maybe the information in this article could be of use?

Now my theory is, I believe the GSR causes similar problems to the JTD as the Scooby in this article has.

Not because it's a bad design, totally the opposite! It's so good that the standard boost control setup can't cope with the extra airflow it's bringing in

When you floor it in 3rd or above at around 1800rpm you get a vibration from the clutch as it struggles with the torque, I'm thinking this is a boost spike like in the article as it goes away around 2200rpm.

Now if anything is damaging the clutch, this would be it; so by eliminating this you would be prolonging the life of the clutch. You would however sacrifice some peak torque but only for the overboost period if you set it up correctly.

Of course the alternative would be to buy an electronic boost controller but they are quite a bit more expensive than this option...

DISCLAIMER: I COULD BE TALKING TOTAL ******** HERE AND I'M SURE ONE OF THE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE MEMBERS WILL TELL ME IF I AM OR NOT, OR WHAT THE OBVIOUS FLAWS ARE :p

I get clutch judder at about 2000rpm that goes away by 2200rpm, and I don't have a GSR induction kit (running standard air intake) and I have an Angel Tuning remap. Clutch has 41k miles on it and it doesn't slip at all, just a bit of judder at peak torque.

hmm i never got it with my AT map iirc

How long ago did you have your AT remap? I'm pretty sure AT have completely rewritten their JTD map since you had it.

It will be interesting to see what power the AT remap is producing and how much torque it is producing at 2000-2200rpm so that it can be compared to the GSR/Red Dot remap. If my cars out of the bodyshop by the 3rd Feb then I'll probably come down to the RR day and get the car on the rollers to find out. (y)

I had my JTD remapped to 120BHP, producing 195 torque.

I got juddering at 2,000 RPM with a brand new clutch.

Does the JTD have a DMF? It should do although I am not 100%

If it does, that will be the cause of vibration and/or judder at about 2k - 2.5k as this is where the torque peaks and sometimes the DMF doesn't like it and will become unbalanced. If you continue to get this you will destroy the DMF and probably take the clutch with it. When my Fabia VRS was running a generic map all 300lbft came in around 2100 rpm. The flywheel lasted about 3 months at which point it disintegrated. The clutch and DMF cost £1500 to replace (Lucky it was covered under the warranty thanks to having a switchable map).

You can map round it. Get a nice custom map to bring the torque in a little more gradually which usually makes the car a lot more drivable with the power in a better place but the best way to take this into account is with the MK1 Right foot [TM]
