Technical Rough idle

Look straight down hole the spark plugs have been removed from , the thing you see is top of piston.
Thanks mate can't really see much especially seen as its such a narrow space to try and get a torch to shine into

Ive put it back together no closer to solving this issue runs like sh*t still really fed up with the thing. Thanks for all the help though.

It is very difficult to track down a problem like you have without diagnostic software , like multi ecu scan.

Its already been on a proper garage obd scanner when i took it in absolutely 0 faults showing when something is quite definitely up. Its so annoying i need the car to run properly so i can actually sell up in a few months.

There are code reader scanners of all sorts of different capabilities.
Just because a code hasn't come up yet doesn't mean there isn't a problem.
Reading the live data while the engine is running means you can see what the engine ecu "sees" from it's sensors and then with experience try and find anything that looks wrong.
I know you are fed up at the moment .
Lots of people are trying to help you.

Next time you feel up to it remove the map sensor , see if it's covered in oil , post a photo, try and clean the oil off it spray as best you can.

Keep driving it as the fault may get bad enough to set fault code. Which may help.

Good luck

Spark plugs look more or less ok to me. You’re not going to see anything looking down the spark plug holes.

You could see about posing a video of the engine running, might give us an idea of how it is misfiring/rough running, but you can’t really tell a lot from a video on line.

I seem to think that the 1.4 8v has some sort of rudimentary adjustable valve timing, someone else might be able to come along and confirm this, however on older 1.8 HGT puntos this sort of set up causes a lot of issues with rough running of it plays up. Maybe also take off the cover on the cambelt to make sure it’s not loose and a tensioner has failed. You seem fairly capable of looking at these things.

My money is still on head gasket, you can get a compression tester for about £20 off amazon and test it at home, take spark plugs out, screw tester in, turn engine over, see what the reading is. If ok move on to the next cylinder.

OBD fault codes are the results of sensors not getting the right results in some cases if a sensor has failed then the car can think everything is ok but adjustments make the car run like a bag of spanners

Really appreciate all the help and feedback guys will have another look at mentioned above tommorow after work. Thanks again.

Hi i don't know if i mentioned this before but the rough idle is worse when the engine is cold like it is extremely shaky obviously still there when warm but thought I'd mention that. With check the MAP sensor tonight and give it a clean. Other then that looks like ill be taking a trip to the garage.

You may have mentioned worse when cold.
Where are you located someone with MES may be nearby?

Keep driving it if a component is starting to fail it's often easier to find if failed rather than failing.

Oh and take it for a good run if you can.

Lots here all of a sudden I have skimmed... What about the air or petrol filters? I would check the air immediately, if it is water logged or impaired for some reason lots of odd things can happen. Similarly for the fuel filter.

Air filter is new check it regularly nothing bad. As for the fuel filter how would i check this thanks.

Ok. Fuel filter is less likely to be fair, to find out replace it. Either way worth an improver and a top up with good fuel when you can, how often does the tank get filled? New plugs could arrive with you tomorrow or you can collect from a local motor factor, to end that discussion.

Just been to local garage again they had a look and listen and said it isn't that bad which in truth it isn't as it doesn't effect anything other then the idle they said it shluld be fine to run and that. Ill probably change sparks anyways and that. Obviously ill stay posted for any deterioration or faults.
