Loss of supply to Ignition Switch

Long time user of these forums, first time poster (be gentle with me)

I have searched these forums and the web in general but Can't find anyone with a similar issue.

My 2010 Evo suddenly lost the live supply to the ignition switch just after starting. I have checked all the fuses (although I can't find a fuse listed for the ignition switch in the handbook), and have checked all the relays. but I can't find where the switch gets it's live from. The loom is hard to follow back but seems to go up and then along to join with the loom behind the glove box, but I can't find the same colour wiring (large core orange/green wire and large core orange wire) to test further. Has any of you bright bods had a similar problem? Anyone got a wiring diagram?

Thanks in advance, Marauder

Have you checked the fuses and relays under the bonnet next to the Battery?

not sure it'll be fused,
just as likely to have lost a major earth.. = no circuit,

Re: Loss of supply to Ignition Switch

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have checked all the fuses in the engine bay fuse box and all the mega fuses have lives to them, and all the others are intact. I have fed all the relays down their '87' circuits, none of them are for the ignition switch. The handbook listing is also different from the actual vehicle which doesn't help

If I power up the centre orange/green on the switch with my power probe the dash powers up when I turn the key on, and everything that normally need the ignition live, wipers, indicators, windows etc then all work. This suggests that it is not an earth problem. However it doesn't then crank and the 'immobilised' symbol stays lit.

I have tried again today to trace where the live to the switch is supposed to come from but it is almost impossible to trace the loom without stripping out the whole dash.

Any ideas anyone, otherwise it's off to the stealers or a decent auto electrician

Re: Loss of supply to Ignition Switch

try posting with ALL the car's model , engine, trim etc ( + pics), in the Grande Punto section,
others will have seen this over the years,

otherwise, auto electrician,
wouldn't waste my money on a dealer, as it sounds like you know as much about testing as them..,

good luck,
Charlie - Oxford
