Hi, I really like the punto evo and I want a sporty version so I am thinking of the GP? An internet site broadspeed.com can do a multiair 1.4 gp for £9850 and a diesel version for £10,500 ish. I do 20,000 miles a year so need something economical. To be honest I do like the way petrols drive so if the multiair does decent mgp i would be swayed that way! However reading a few posts mpg on the multiair doesnt go above 40mpg which is not enough really. Can anyone tell me what these two versions of the gp are like to live with and mpg if possible.
Also, i have never had a fiat before and come from a toyota, vw background so am a little worried about build quality etc - no offence meant!
Thanks very much in advance!
Paul :)

Hi, and welcome. Yes you are right Fiat have had issues concerning build quality in the past, but this new Evo is a step up with improved interior and dashboard over the Grande Punto. The 1.4 Multiair is as you mentioned not that economical I average 37.8mpg in my GP at the moment but the diesel is considerably better and if you travel 20k a year that would be the best choice and at 10,500 quid a good buy as well. I've had, and my wife, 2 Grande Punto Sportings including the 1.4 T-Jet and the old Mk1 & Mk2's with no problems what so ever, build quality not even an issue. Yes Toyota and VW cars are good and reliable but even these brands can have major issues!! No manufacturer is perfect! Try the EVO I've had mine 3 months aand for me it serves the purpose, although I sometimes wish I went for the Diesel as I cover 13000miles a year. Good luck.

Hi, thanks very much for the welcome and reply. I know all cars can have faults, had to reject a Peugeot 207 in 2009 due to faulty engine so I have good experience of this lol!
Im glad you have the multiair engine as I was very interested in hearing from someone with that engine to see what the true mpg figures are. I know diesel is the way for me I just prefer to drive petrols. Did you get the style pack with your gp? it looks very nice but not sure it is worth £500 extra for a side skirt, dark windows and better audio?

Hi, the car I purchased was an ex-demonstrator so had a few extras added like the style pack with rear tinted windows, side skirts & uprated radio (Subwoofer), i must admit I wouldn't have bought a GP without this Pack because other than the alloys it looks like the Sporting model, so if you want to purchase a GP & you can afford it have the Style Pack, it distinguishes it from a basic Evo. Mine also came with the added 'Go-Faster stripes' down the side which are ok and not over-the-top, in fact it does suit it. Also mine came with the Ambient lighting thrown in. I'am disaoppointed with the MPG I was lead to believe from the brochures that I would get, maybe, mid 40's, but I'm only getting 2 1/2 MPG more than my 1.4 T-Jet (Turbo) Grande Punto! Personally I think the Fiat Punto Evo is a good choice, and sometimes they get slated for no apparent reason. I had a few Nissan's prior to my first Punto I owned in my own right, which were okay, but my Fiat Punto 2004, Active Sport 16v was a big improvement.

Yeah I noticed the style pack was £500, that would make it 11k for the GP diesel version and for £600 more I could have the 1.6 diesel Sporting!
Would be great to hear from anyone with either diesel engines but I doubt I will as the forum seem to be full of younger lads with petrol engine sportings lol (y)

Well I would probably have gone for the 1.6 Diesel, unfortunately however it wasn’t in production when I bought my Evo so I opted for the 1.4 Turbo.
Don’t think anyone on the forum has the new diesel version yet, certainly not that I know of.:(

I didnt think anyone would have the 1.6 diesel yet? but i think it is in the bravo? could be wrong? I might try on that forum for real world fuel stats as this is very important to me doing 23,000 miles a year!

I think the Bravo might have had the 1.6 120bhp diesel in manual format for a short while, but most of the time it's only been available with the Dualogic gearbox. The manual 1.6 in the Bravo is usually the 105bhp.

However, the Alfa MiTo has the same 1.6 120bhp diesel engine as in the Punto Evo, so a visit to www.alfaowner.com may prove helpful.
