hey lads ,
i have a 1.6 16v marea weekender and the alternator is shot, would an alternator from a 2.0 20v fit ?

thanks in advance

Hi.

I'm not sure about the mountings, but i can see the the PolyV belt is wider on the 2.0 20V.
The 1.6 16V has 5 ribs but the 2.0 20V has 6.
If it's just the regulator that's gone, you can replace it without removing the alternator (It's a P.I.T.A job, you have to loosen a engine mounting and tip the engine towards the radiator).

hi , thanks for your reply , how would i know if it were the regulator and where would i get one .. if its cheap enough it woould be worth trying first.

is it easy to change when the alternator is still on the car

thanks

Hi Al

Sorry, i have misinformed you.
When i came to think of it, it was my old Ford Escort where the voltage regulator was placed in a socket on the rear of the alternator.
As you see in the enclosed files, it's a bit more complicated on Fiats.
You have to remove it from the engine bay to do the job.

One day the charging voltage on my 1997 1.6 16V Marea droped to just above 12V even on high revs.
I purchased a old rusty alternator at the scrappy (the only one he had) and swapped the regulators and that did the job (14,4V at idle).
It took some hours because the alternator is placed behind the engine.
