I have a 2007 Panda and my last mot advisory said Macpherson strut pin/bush worn, but not resulting in excessive movement. What actually is the pin or bush? I have googled it but all it shows is the full Macpherson assembly. Is the pin/ bush a separate component within the whole assembly?
Thanks for any answers.

Ours had that advisory.. for a while

Obviously the MOT is set up for every car on the road.. so minor build differences are just that

The tester has to look and 'tick a box'

My understanding is.. it will be minor play in the upper pivot

Just consider what a McPherson strut is

The loadbearing assembly on the front corner

From the top

Fixing nut and washer

Bearing

Damper rod

S P R I N G

Gas -fluid chamber

Lower clamp

Not many pins..other than the main rod

Bush:
Damper isnt leaking..

Bolts are tight

Lower ball joint (on wishbone) would normally be called that

My money is minor play at the top bearing area

I think its the wrong code.

would work for say an old jag

normally on modern cars I see

Front Upper Macpherson strut pin or bush excessively worn top mount

???

I normally read the MOT while I pick up the car and ask whether the adviser need to be done

you often get it no bad we have to put it down. Or its on its way out a will need replacing before its next MOT

I always stand next to the ramp while they do the test, drinking the free coffee(MOT viewing area), If there are any problems the mot tester will show you exactly what it is, sometimes they are short staffed so I work the brakes, steering etc for them.
The description for faults can be very vague, it could be named a completely different part by the manufacturer.

It's just a generic term that's pre selectable on the MOT system, most likely the first they come across on the system.

As the Pandas front strut is bolted to the hub at the bottom I would presume there's a little movement in the top mount.
