I've a 1.3 panda multijet and have noticed dark stains above the water level in the cars coolant tank. The coolant is perfectly clean and so is the oil.

Is this a sign that the cylinder head may have blown in the past or that their are cracks in cylinder block?

Have you dipped the reservoir?
If not, put a clean rag in, let it absorb the surface of the coolant water, then examine what you've got out. It may be nothing. It doesn't look serious, but photos are deceptive.

I have a diesel version and the reservoir looks similar to yours with a dark area above the coolant level, but there ain't nowt wrong with mine.

Any other symptoms apart from this?
