I've just had my egr valve replaced under warranty. As an old Doris owned it for a few years it's obviously coked up to heck. A good long run at high revs has cleaned her out I reckon! If this new egr valve fails and I fit a blanking plate, is it possible to switch off the eml with my cheap code reader or will it be a laptop jobbie?

'A new EGR valve shouidnt fail,

Blanking off EGR's dosent normaly Bring up EML. iirc,
Best off cleaning rather than Blanking imho,

they is there for a reason'.

blanking off egrs can cause hot spots in the cylinder head
you might get away with it in a poorly designed weekotec vauxhall engine that caused them to go to chapter 11 but if this is say fiats finest to date multijet diesel you are doing it a disservice to even contemplate such a bad move because it wouldn't work anyway

the best advice is buy quality fuel and frequent oils and filters and not potter it

Cheers. I only ever use shell or BP diesel and quality oils. Since its had a new one fitted the eml has stayed of. I don't know if the old one was a faulty solenoid or coked up as I never got to see the old one. Europarts sell one for about £30 so whether it's had a cheap one fitted I don't know. I can't see a £30 egr valve lasting long!
