Wife was driving my 4x4 today when someone hit the Panda up the bum. When she called me at work she said it was just a cracked bumper but I knew that it would probably be more.


She opened the boot up and the space saver is pinned in by the rear of the boot floor which has been pushed in.


From a 2 minute inspection the following are knackered
Rear bumper is cracked.
Rear bumper moulding.
Rear bumper support is bent like a banana!
More or less every clip is damaged
The boot floor below the hatch opening is badly pushed in, the seam sealer underneath has cracked.
The drivers seat seems to have partially collapsed as the seat doesn't quite feel right anymore.


I'm not sure, but the exhaust shield looks damaged? The main purpose of my post is actually to ask if any 4x4 owners can take a quick photo of the rear edge of the exhaust shield so I can see if this has taken a whack or is fine. Access is particularly tight for me as the bumper is pushed in, but if you poke a camera phone up behind the bumper and take a photo looking towards the front of the car. Kind of think it'll be a writeoff, but would like it restored to its full glory if it isn't!

I'm sure you'll be aware, but it'll be a write off, no doubt about that.

Question is will you keep the salvage and then sell it on eBay - I would personally, well in fact I'm tempted to see what you want for it as salvage to have some proper off road fun later this year when my mates take their land rovers etc off road.

I'd start hunting those extortionate ad's for 4x4's to justify getting a higher than book price for the car

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope your wife is OK, must have been quite a shock. Car does sound like a write off,but fingers crossed.

Yeah wife is fine, was very low speed impact

I will try and claim through the other guys insurance so will think about salvage. I shall give you first dibs Jon

glad to hear nobody was hurt..and I suspect you have alternative transport..,
however as MEP rightly says , now is an expensive time to buy a replacement 4 x 4,
make sure they give FULL replacement value,

I suspect the car that crashed into it played a difference, this is was a Peugeot Bipper so has a quite low nose.

So glad to hear nobody is hurt.

Sadly if the damage extends as far as the driver's seat, I can't see it being fixable. But it's kept your wife safe; the car has done its job.

first of all glad no one was hurt, car are made of metal they dont bleed and they dont feel any pain

secondly sorry to hear your wife got banged up the bum (well someone had to say it :devil::devil

maybe you can put some pics on of the damage especialy the bent bumper mounts

ouch yes looks bad but to be honest if it looks ok on outside and boot shuts ok i would be tempted to get some slings and a good strong lamp post and pull it out yourself or get spare out ( let air out of tyre ) will get it out then get some bits of wood and a bottle jack and push it back to shape, but only if you have problems with insurance. soon get a new bumper. damage repairs are write offs due to the very expensive labour charges. as long as body is not rippled should be ok. the seat damage will be due to the rearward inertia from your wife, but second hand seat can soon be got for £30 from scrappers. otherwise let insurance sort it

Floor doesn't look to have shifted from those pics, only rear panel, TBH I'm 50/50 as to write off or repair, although if drivers seat has gone also.....

TBH the blipper has a highish nose from memory, its certainly ridden over the top of the Panda's rear crash beam.

I've got all the replacement parts sitting on the drive funny enough

Also I still stand by what I originally said about wanting a scrapper for some off road fun, don't think I could justify doing it to this Panda though as not as bad as I'd envisaged now we've got pic's.

I remember repairing a Friend mk2 Punto in the summer with similar, if not worse, damage were it had been rear ended by an L200.

Boot closed and there was a bit of panel gap

yes new boot and bumper and a bit of time work wonders

Yep - rear panel was a bit of a pig, but some trusty swearing and we got there in the end
