Having been told by several automotive locksmiths that it was necessary to get a pre-coded key from Fiat I just got a new transponder key made from the old one at Timpsons. Not a remote key just the basic key cloned from the original second key. It costs £40 much less than the original £134.50 to Fiat plus £45 recode with an automotive locksmith.

You do need to take the car.

The machine they have is made by Advanced Diagnostics.

My way of looking at it;
£40 for a "peace-of-mind" Key that i'm unlikely to ever use,

or @ £150 for something that would do the same job..,

one clear winner to me.. My back pocket,

I've read on here many a time about the cheap and reliable service by Timpson - unfortuantely the only one near me is in a shopping complex - surrounded by "traffic-free" zones..,
NO way you could get a car there..!!

Hi

It cost £40 vs £179.50 (£135.50 to Fiat and £45 for the locksmith) so it is a clear winner it is a £140.50 saving.

The Timpson guy shut up shop and came out on his lunch to do the car bit. He is only 21 and is knocking his pan out at his job and deserves to get on.

Hi

Yes a 2005 Panda with a Philips Crypto 2 ID46 transponder.

I contacted Advance Diagnostics supplier who told me the transponder could be cloned I asked who had the necessary equipment and then went to the local branch.

You need to take the car with you as once the initial cloning is done by the machine the transponder then had to be sellotaped to the original key (not the remote button one in my case since the transponder is broken or missing in / from that one, I think it would be as well to take the basic key as well as the electric one since perhaps they are different and Timpsons was making a duplicate of the basic one). Once taped to the key the ignition was put through 4 10 second prestart sequences and then the key was returned to the coding machine.

The key was a sticky in the locks so it was run through the physical duplicator again.

It works a 2005 Fiat Panda key duplicated for £40 all in. I had a bit of other lock work done elsewhere but that was about the car not the key.
