Fiat appear to have a problem with the Panda Dualogic gearbox on March and April 05 registered models. My Eleganza Dualogic has been back to the dealer on no less than 6 occasions to have the Dualogic software reloaded - it lasts about 4 to 5 weeks then appears to lose the code resulting in an almost undriveable vehicle. The symptoms are that the clutch engages as soon as the slightest amount of throttle is applied and before the engine revs have risen from tickover. The Gearbox ECU detects that the clutch has engaged to early and disengages only to enage again as you open the throttle a little further - result the car kangaroos forwards or backwards in an L driver manner! So far all this has been covered under warranty bit Fiat still have not found a solution. Has anyone else had a similar problem with the Dualogic?

Hi Izzy

Thanks for the response.
I'm pretty confident it's nothing to do with the dealer as they are simply carrying out the instructions of Fiat technical support department as to what software to load. So far they've replaced the gearbox ECU and tried 6 different software loads but none of them last for more than 4 weeks before the premature clutch engagement problem returns.

I'm now opening up a dialogue with Fiat HQ in Slough to pile on the pressure to get a fix - I'll let you know how I get on

Get them to replace the gear box under warranty - if it's out of warranty complain about how many times it's been fixed and they should swap it.

I had an April 05 Dualogic (now on an 06 Dualogic) anyway my 05 had an interesting little fault which may be a pointer. Mine would come up with the warning on the dash of "gearbox failure". This certainly got my attention the first time it happened as I was 70mph on the motorway. Anyway to cut a long story short pulling the stalk for the screenwashers the warning went away and anyway even with the warning on the gearbox functioned quite normally and the fix was a faulty earth.

Anyway Dualogic assuming it is working is superb.

You sound awfully like me during my early stages of owning a Dualogic.. :chin:

Chances are Fiat doesn't know what the problem is, and therefore would have no idea how to fix it. Sorry to sound negative, but just being realistic :)

Was it a Panda? You say eairly stages. Did you get it sorted then?

Nope its a GP, but Dualogic's the same across models I would assume.

I didn't/don't have the same issue as TimH, but from experience these kinds of gearbox often have unresolvable issues so just have to live with it.

But by all means give the dealer(s) a chance to fix it - for me personally I just CBFed anymore.

Here's one of the problems if you're interested: https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-technical/82628-first-second-gear-pt1.html

As I drive almost daily now I won't notice it (because it needs to be left cold for at least a day or two).

The other problem I had ages ago (and watch I've just jinxed myself ) was a faulty brake switch, twice: https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-pu...-5-hour-ordeal-two-month-old-gp-dualogic.html

But to answer your question, no, don't really have any problems with it for now.

I had the same problem and its an easy fix!

My original problem:

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-new/115225-panda-semi-auto-newbie-questions-help-2.html

"I think my dual logic clutch may be failing... its getting more juddery when cold and is not like when I bought it. The problem only occurs at biting point.... When I press the throttle I feel the clutch literally just biting and taking up drive it then stays in gear (does not come in and out) but jerks, I see the rev's gfoing as low as 500 rpm. Sounds like it could be a bit of both. However it is worse when cold, which may mean it could be an electronic fault such as an air flow meter or missfire?"

This guy sounds like he has the same problem:

https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-techn...misfiring.html and someone recommends cleaning out the throttle body.

The fix:

Can drives 100% better! 5 min job to clean throttle body! 2 bolts, some cleaner and a rag! So easy, so worth the effort!

:cry:My dualogic has problems?the gear moves from ist to neutral if I stop at a trafic light or something and have to really push down on the brake pedal to stop it happening. When it moves into first I can hear that the revs aren't right, same with 2nd and then its ok til I stop again. The amb er car management light(im not sure of the proper name)is continually on and I get an onscreen message saying"engine Failure"(which scared me to death.I took to the mecchanic who told me it was the throttle position, sensor. On the bill of £46.it states under repairs 1.Code Read EML 2.Clear Codes.2days later its doing it again.?Help.

I recall reading that the earlier dualogics had a software timer which was set too low which controlled how long the vehicle would idle in gear before it automatically
went into neutral, I think it was only 20 seconds which isn't long enough for traffic lights. My 2008 dualogic does it after about 90 seconds or more, only ever seen it do it twice

I have exactly the same problem - pulled over to let a bus through and the car went into neutral by itself and then i couldn't select any gears - its in the garage at the moment being fixed - this isn't the first time i have had this problem and i am now getting really fed up - they say they have 'upgraded' the gearbox - whatever that means and it should be fine!!!!!????

if not - the guy said it would mean a new gear box costing 1500 - dream on. I shall be contacting fiat in writing, email and any other possible way - my car is a 54 reg and only done 36 000 miles - why the hell should i have to pay for it when there is clearly a problem with their parts - can't put this one down to wear and tear

:bang:Hiya,I'm not sure what to do either.Mine is a 54reg with only 17.000.miles,I bought it 6mths ago from a man in northhampton who never mentioned this fault(but he wouldn't have done would he)the mot is up in a month and I didn;t want to be spending any more money on mecchanics because last week after telling me that the codes had been cleared and if that didn,t work i'd be looking at £160.to get it sorted. Now I don't know what to do for the best, the mot runs out next month and im not sure whether to risk it until then and take it somewhere else and hope for the best.Any ideas anyone!!.

Sounds like it could be a simple issue of the brake pedal switch not adjusted correctly. Do the brake lights come-on ok, or only if you press really hard like you say?

Fiat Dealer, or local mechanic with a code-reader? Deleting a code will never resolve an issue that isn't fixed, but then again even the AA/RAC seem to think along these lines. :bang:

It's possible this error code is what is causing the gearbox to select neutral as a safety precaution. The normal (cable operated) 1.2 throttle body's had an issue with the throttle potentiometer causing idle issues, but I seem to recall the Dualogic's are a motorised throttle, which is completely different.
